Big News! — Wright Brothers Institute is thrilled to announce that a few weeks ago, we were awarded a 4-year, $1.5M+ Cooperative Agreement with the Dayton Regional STEM School (DRSS) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in support of The Gaming Research Integration for Learning Laboratory® (GRILL).
This partnership is all about empowering the broader community and connecting with AFRL to advance the workforce of tomorrow. For over 12 years, we’ve been working with DRSS and AFRL to bring real-world Air Force challenges into collaborative environments. Now, we’re expanding our reach to make an even bigger impact.
Here’s what’s coming:
Innovation Phases/Sprints: Three times a year, we’ll bring together educators, researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to tackle cutting-edge challenges. These events are designed to engage young adults and working professionals who are ready to level up their skills and drive innovation.
Community Colliders: Quarterly events where academia, industry, and government collide (in the best way possible) to share ideas, showcase breakthroughs, and spark new collaborations. These colliders are about building connections that advance workforce development and create opportunities for the entire community.
Real-World Problem Solving Meets Workforce Development: We’re integrating Air Force research problems into content that gives participants hands-on experience with the tools and technologies shaping the future—everything from AR/VR to robotics, biomedical engineering, and autonomous systems. This isn’t just about education—it’s about equipping the workforce with the skills needed to thrive in high-demand fields.
This initiative is about scaling impact, addressing workforce challenges, and creating opportunities for innovation that stand the test of time. Wright Brothers Institute is committed to empowering the community, advancing workforce development, and connecting with AFRL to drive meaningful change.
We’re not just keeping up with the times—we’re leading the charge. This continued partnership is proof that when you bring the right people together, amazing things happen — looking forward to the next four years of innovation, collaboration, and inspiration. Let’s make it happen!
