We almost cut this apple tree down last year because, as you can see, it's mostly dead. But God has brought a new life and it is growing for all to see!

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
Isaiah 43:18-19

When Madi Gross first came to Blazing Hope Ranch, she was a student at Bryan College and a member of the women’s soccer team. After an injury sidelined her from playing, she found herself with time to volunteer at the Ranch’s Hootenanny. As she listened to the speakers share their stories, she felt God stirring something in her heart. “I realized that I really wanted to help in this area,” Madi said. She began praying, and through a mutual connection was introduced to Jo. What started as an internship soon became a calling, and nine months ago, Madi officially joined the Blazing Hope Ranch team.

At just 22 years old, Madi admits she was nervous stepping into a role that asked her to walk alongside women rebuilding their lives after trauma. But those nerves quickly gave way to purpose. Her days are filled with both practical responsibilities and meaningful moments—picking up prescriptions, helping with chores, working through budgeting and meal planning with residents, participating in house meetings, and spending time in community. Sometimes, the most impactful moments are as simple as doing a resident’s nails and creating space for conversation and connection.

What has surprised Madi most is how much the women she serves have taught her in return. “I knew my job was to mentor these ladies, love them, and do life with them,” she said. “I did not expect for them to also teach me so many things.” She points to one resident who arrived quiet and unsure but has grown into a confident leader, motivated to heal and become the best mother she can be. Madi has seen firsthand that hope is real because God is still healing deep wounds and restoring lives. One moment she’ll never forget was her college graduation, when residents and coworkers showed up to cheer her on. “The ranch cheers each other on when there’s things to celebrate, but we are also there for each other during the hard times,” she said. “It’s not easy work, but it’s worth it.”

Every Memorial Day, we remember the people who laid down their lives so others could live safely, freely, and with hope for a future—and as we do, it’s hard not to think about the cost of freedom.

At Blazing Hope Ranch, we meet women whose freedom has been stolen in ways many people never see—through exploitation, abuse, trafficking, and trauma. And while Memorial Day is a day to honor those who fell in service, it’s also a reminder to us that freedom is never something to take lightly.

Real freedom is precious. It’s worth protecting, worth fighting for, and worth helping someone rediscover when it’s been taken from them—so today we remember with gratitude, honor those who gave their lives, and hold close the gift of freedom, mindful of the cost and grateful for the sacrifices that make our freedoms possible.

When Blazing Hope Ranch first called Kara Teichroew in 2019, she wasn’t looking for a job. As a mother of seven who had spent years homeschooling her children, her life was centered on home and family. But when Jo asked if she would come alongside residents and help lead recovery work, Kara agreed to what she thought would be just a few hours a week. Looking back, she smiles at how quietly God redirected her steps. What began as a small commitment became a deeply meaningful role and a team she now describes as one of the greatest blessings of her life.

Ask Kara what a typical day looks like and she’ll laugh—because there really isn’t one. The work is centered on people, not products, so flexibility is part of the rhythm. She starts each shift by checking in with residents and making space for connection before moving into recovery groups, step work, Tuesday dinners after therapy, and evening horse chores. More than anything, Kara wants the women to know they are seen, supported, and never rushed through the healing process.

Over time, Kara has learned that healing rarely looks neat or predictable. Sometimes it’s quiet and steady; other times it comes through grief, conflict, and hard conversations. One moment that deeply shaped her came through Sundae, one of the ranch horses she grew especially close to. As Kara and Sundae both faced health challenges, Kara found herself processing fear and uncertainty in the horse’s quiet presence. When Sundae passed away, it deepened Kara’s understanding of equine therapy and the role the horses play in healing—not as background support, but as steady companions in the process.

Kara wishes more people understood that the women at the ranch are not being “rescued.” They are the ones doing the hard, courageous work of healing. In many ways, she says, the residents teach the staff about strength, humility, and even their own limitations.

For Kara, Blazing Hope Ranch is a place where presence matters more than perfection and where everyone who walks through the gates is changed by it.

A huge thank you to Monkey Town Brewing Company - Dayton and everyone who participated in their recent profit share event, which raised nearly $1,000 for Blazing Hope Ranch!

While $1,000 may seem small compared to the overall costs of long-term restorative care, gifts like this make a tangible difference. This contribution will help provide treatment materials for survivors in our programs—recovery workbooks, life skills curriculum, therapeutic books, and other resources that support the hard work of healing.

These tools help women process trauma, build healthy coping skills, and take practical steps toward lasting freedom. Every workbook completed, every lesson learned, and every breakthrough moment is part of the journey toward restoration.

Thank you, Monkey Town Brewing Company, for investing in hope and helping provide steady ground for lasting change.

When Blazing Hope Ranch Case Manager Beth Littleton first came to the ranch, she believed she was answering a call to help women. What she didn’t anticipate was that as she helped survivors rediscover hope, God would use their stories to deepen her own faith and bring healing to places in her life she didn’t even realize needed it.

Beth first connected to the ranch as a mom, when her children attended Camp Run Free and her homeschool co-op served alongside the ministry. With a background in nursing education and a heart for helping others, she now walks alongside women in every phase of our residential program, especially in Phase III as they prepare for independent living. In this season, Beth’s role shifts from hands-on support to accountability and encouragement. She helps residents work toward milestones like finishing school or job training, securing employment, obtaining reliable transportation, and moving into housing of their own. “I literally watch these ladies morph out of their chrysalis into a beautiful butterfly,” Beth says. “They gain their wings and fly.” As they experience God’s goodness and faithfulness in tangible ways, Beth has the privilege of helping them recognize His hand in their story.

Faith is at the center and cornerstone of all that is done at Blazing Hope Ranch, and Beth carries that into each day. Before every weekly resident meeting, she prays with and for the women she serves, trusting the truth of 1 Corinthians 3:6: “I planted the seed, but God was causing the growth.” A graduate once described Beth as someone who “kicks butt and takes names,” a phrase Beth has embraced with a smile. She advocates fiercely, listens closely, and continually points survivors back to the unchanging faithfulness of God. “The ranch has completely changed me for the better,” Beth shares. “By the grace of God, I now have a faith I didn’t know was possible.” At the ranch, Beth has learned that healing is never one-sided. As survivors rediscover hope, God is at work restoring everyone involved.

She’s done the hard work. After months of showing up, doing the healing work, and choosing a different future for herself than she even knew was possible years ago, one of our residents is preparing to graduate from our program. She has a job. She has goals. She has hope. But there is still a very practical need standing between her and the independence she has fought so hard to build: reliable transportation.

For most of us, a car is something we hardly think about. For a survivor, it can mean the difference between being stuck and moving forward. It means getting to work, making counseling appointments, buying groceries, and continuing to build a life marked by safety and freedom. A car won’t solve everything, but it can remove one more barrier and give a brave graduate the opportunity to keep driving toward the future she has worked so hard to reach.

Please pray with us and share with your network: we're looking for a car for an upcoming graduate, and you could be the person that connects us to one.
