When nine backcountry skiers were tragically killed in an avalanche near Tahoe, how did rescuers get the call? Not a satellite phone. Not a Garmin InReach. Not a SPOT. The lone surviving guide used an iPhone's SOS satellite texting feature to reach authorities. If you carry an iPhone 14, Google Pixel 9, Samsung Galaxy S25 or newer, you already have this life-saving capability. When there's no cell service, these phones automatically send your 911 text via satellite. 🛰️🆘🛟
