Miami Valley Community Action Partnership

Miami Valley Community Action Partnership Helping People. Changing Lives. Serving the residents of Darke, Greene, Montgomery & Preble Counties We thank all of you for your on-going support.

Miami Valley Community Action Partnership was established as a nonprofit corporation in December 1964, with the passage of the Economic Opportunity Act. This act called for “the elimination of the paradox of poverty in the land of plenty.” It mandated Community Action Agencies to focus all available local, state, private and federal resources on empowering low-income individuals and families to

attain the skills, knowledge and opportunities required to become self-sufficient. Since 1964, we have provided opportunities for low-income individuals and families to lead more productive lives through advocacy efforts, education, job training, employment and the provision of safe and affordable housing. Today, Community Action Partnership has an operating budget of approximately $13 million, approximately 100 employees and a 21-member Board of Trustees. This agency is honored to be affiliated with the National Community Action Partnership, an organization which represents the interests of more than 1,000 Community Action Agencies across the United States dedicated to eliminating poverty and promoting self-sufficiency among low-income persons and their families. After 50 years of still changing lives, we are most appreciative to those that we serve, the partners who help us in this effort and our dedicated staff members. We thank our Board of Trustees who provides oversight of our resources, encouragement and direction to our staff.

MVCAP’s Domestic Violence Services Program provides a Preble County domestic violence hotline for anyone seeking services to survive domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and human/sex trafficking.

We also provide emergency shelter and aid for survivors and their children fleeing domestic violence. A variety of programming helps survivors and children improve personal safety, encourage self-sufficiency and enable clients to survive, cope and re-enter the community safely.

We also provide domestic violence related advocacy and case management to survivors in the community who don’t need shelter.

We’re celebrating 50 years of Weatherization !

Since its launch in 1976, the Home Weatherization Assistance Program has efficiently retrofitted below standard low-income homes, greatly improving residents’ utility costs and health outcomes.

Millions of residents have lowered their energy bills and improved their lives with the program. MVCAP provides weatherization services to more than 600 households in nine counties every year.

We work to braid HWAP funding with home repair funding, lead remediation, utility assistance and so much more. Our partnerships extend across the state and in every community. We are proud to partner with YOU to make your house more homey.

MVCAP proudly sponsored and attended HTC Dayton’s Champions for Children Breakfast as our partner celebrated 25 years of enriching the lives of children and families throughout the region.

The breakfast highlighted HTC’s long-standing impact as well as the dignity, care, and practical support the organization brings to families. Guests heard inspiring remarks from Deanna Murphy, HTC Dayton’s Executive Director; Karli Efron from the National Diaper Bank Network; and a mother whose children received support through HTC.

One of the most meaningful parts of the morning was a panel featuring that mother, her case manager, and an HTC volunteer, attendees said. The mother shared about working since she was 16, navigating her partner’s job loss, a complicated pregnancy, bed rest, medical bills, and the difficult reality of not qualifying for some assistance programs despite significant hardship.

“The conversation offered a very human view of how quickly a hardworking family can experience crisis,” said President and CEO Erin Jeffries. “Her story was a strong reminder that families often come to organizations like HTC and MVCAP during some of their most vulnerable moments. It also reinforced the importance of community partnerships that respond with compassion, practical help, and respect.”

MVCAP partners with HTC to provide an additional layer of critical support to families residing in the agency’s Greene County and domestic violence shelters. Clothing, hygiene and comfort items are provided on a case-by-case basis.

“We proudly applaud HTC’s 25 years of compassionate service, advocacy, and care for our community,” Jeffries added.

Joining Jeffries at the breakfast were Chief Operating Officer and HTC Dayton Board of Directors Vice Chair Katie O’Donoghue-Ly; Brent Robinson, April Gibson, and Cynthia Porter from the Greene County team; Courtney Griffith, Heather Seymour, and Alana Gray from Domestic Violence Services.

Miami Valley CAP’s directors not only lead their individual departments, but also serve as part of one shared leadership team.

Directors from throughout the agency came together for a full-day leadership retreat May 1 at the Aileron campus in Troy.

“The retreat created space to talk about how we continue building a stronger one-team culture, support consistent expectations, and move agency priorities forward together,” said President and CEO Erin Jeffries. “We focused on learning, reflection, honest conversation, and stronger alignment.”
