Too many young people today are growing up without hope, direction, or consistent support from caring adults. Premier Health's grant allows our team to continue to connect caring adults with vulnerable youth. Encouraging relationships that change lives.

MVLF has been awarded a grant from the Dor-Wood Optimist Club in support of our Mentoring2Thrive (M2T) youth mentoring program. This grant will allow us to have a growing impact in the Kettering School District this year.

M2T equips under-resourced youth with the tools they need to succeed. One caring mentor can change a young person’s life. Thank you, Dor-Wood Optimist Club, for your compassion and generosity!

Mentors have a huge impact on building capable kids and teens. That's why we're encouraging mentors to notice one strength in their mentee every visit — and say it out loud. Those specific words help kids see themselves differently, and start building the confidence to grow what's already inside them. Being capable doesn't mean being perfect — it means learning, trying, growing, and believing improvement is possible.

Sometimes the impact of mentoring continues long after a program ends. Read this reflection from our mentor, Stephanie:

“I wanted to share the impact mentoring has had on both of us. My mentee, S, recently started attending church with her dad - and they’ve kept going!

After our mentoring ended due to her moving to a different school district, I truly didn’t think I would see her again. When we reconnected at church, I was overwhelmed with emotion - it felt like such a gift to be back in each other’s lives.

Recently, we attended a service together where she brought a friend, and I had the chance to walk her through parts of the experience that were new to her. She’s open, curious, and eager to learn, which has been so special to witness. I was also able to gift her a teen Bible for Easter.

I’m so grateful for this opportunity and would appreciate prayers as she continues to grow in her faith.”
