A big thank you to 4 Paws For Ability for recently visiting The Dayton Foundation and giving our staff the chance to engage with these incredible pups firsthand!

We loved learning more about how you train service dogs to support children and adults by:
🐶 encouraging connection to help reduce feelings of isolation;
🐶 offering reliable alerts and early warnings for a variety of health needs; and
🐶 so much more that makes their owners’ everyday life safer and more independent.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to see the nonprofit organizations our donors support in action and experience the difference they make!

With the support of a $7,500 Greenlight Grant from The Dayton Foundation, Hope Road Organization is bringing youth and families together at the Hope Road Grow2Live Youth & Community Garden. Here, participants dig into gardening, discover the joys of healthy living and join in spirited games of kickball, tug-of-war and soccer.

Thanks to this grant, raised beds sprang up, fences took shape and the garden flourished with new soil, plants and essential materials. National Garden Week is next week, and this project is a great example of the impact a shared garden can have on youth and families.

Wisdom and experience are what come from a lifetime of working and learning. For the past 10 years, we’ve had a front-row seat to the invaluable impact these traits can have on an organization and a community through the work of the Del Mar Encore Fellows Initiative.

Rowan Hetzer, staff reporter for the Dayton Business Journal, recently sat down with our vice president of Community Engagement, Barbra Stonerock, our executive fellow, Leigh Sempeles and a few of our Del Mar Encore Fellows to learn more about this effort and to experience for herself the breadth of the fellows’ work. Thank you, Rowan, for helping us shine a light on the impact these amazing individuals and this initiative are making in our region.

A special thank you to Don Ambrose and all the wonderful individuals who have served through the Del Mar Encore Fellows Initiative and helped make it what it is today.

The Del Mar Encore Fellows program connects retired professionals with nonprofits across the region. Four fellows share what drew them back to work.

Got five minutes?

The majority of the giving that happens through The Dayton Foundation comes from donors who want to leave a legacy of good for the nonprofits they care about, their churches and our region.

Barbra Stonerock, vice president of Community Engagement, talks with Larry Coressel on Discover Classical’s ArtsFocus podcast about how you can leave a legacy for the causes and organizations you are passionate about.
