Omega Community Development Corporation-CDC Breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty by catalyzing change in Northwest Dayton. Vanessa Oliver Ward
President, Omega CDC

The Omega Community Development Corporation has continued to maintain a strong presence throughout the City of Dayton in the program year. Focused on the following three pillars to strengthen the Northwest Dayton Community: Family Development, Youth Development, and Economic Development; the Omega CDC has experienced good success. In the area of Family Development we are extremely proud of the rol

e Omega CDC Street Advocates have played in reducing gun violence among gangs and groups. Through mentoring and 1-on-1 engagement sessions, our Street Advocates have been instrumental in mediating disputes and building stronger relational supports for families and neighborhoods. For the fifth year we have operated a Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School. In this report we share the good news about our impact in building and reinforcing strong summer readers prepared to achieve greater success when they returned to their schools! We are indebted to the sponsors: United Way of Greater Dayton and the John Moore Society that enabled us to serve over 70 scholars, grades K-8 for the summer of 2016. The Omega CDC led the charge to assist in the development plans for the Omega Harvard Campus (formerly United Theological Seminary). Assisted by funds from the City of Dayton, the Omega CDC managed the demolition projects of two buildings; the former library and administrative office. A strategic Business Plan for Sustainability was completed with consultant, Dave Ramey President of the Strategic Leadership Associates, Inc., and some 30 key stakeholders from throughout the Dayton Community have been enlisted to envision the development of a new community center, The Hope Center for Families. We want to continue to thank everyone who has a hand in helping the Omega CDC fulfill its mission.

What happens when the mission comes home?

Meet Allyson. She's an Executive Administrative Assistant at Omega CDC and recently became a homeowner through the work she helps support every day.

The Pathway to Homeownership program through the WPCU® Sunshine Community Fund in partnership with RISE Northwest Development Corporation, a subsidiary of Omega CDC, was built for this community.

And every day, Allyson helps make that possible for others. Now it's her turn.

When your team believes in the mission because they've lived it, that's proof the work is real.

Congratulations, Allyson. We are so excited for your new journey! 🏠✨

We're proud to share that in 2025, Omega CDC received a grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to support our Family Services team and workforce development efforts.

This investment is helping us connect families in Northwest Dayton to meaningful employment opportunities and build pathways to long-term stability.

Economic mobility is a family affair, and we're grateful for partners who believe in the work happening right here in our community.

Thank you, CenterPoint Energy Foundation!

We are still basking in the energy from the State of the Hope Zone Address! 🙌🏾

What was your biggest call-to-action from the event?

This work needs all of us.

It needs residents continuing to lead. It needs partners staying committed. It needs data informing decisions. It needs resources flowing to the right places.

And it requires nights like May 21—moments when we pause to celebrate how far we've come, connect with each other, and remember why this matters.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and joined us at the 2026 State of the Hope Zone.
