The Omega Community Development Corporation has continued to maintain a strong presence throughout the City of Dayton in the program year. Focused on the following three pillars to strengthen the Northwest Dayton Community: Family Development, Youth Development, and Economic Development; the Omega CDC has experienced good success. In the area of Family Development we are extremely proud of the role Omega CDC Street Advocates have played in reducing gun violence among gangs and groups. Through mentoring and 1-on-1 engagement sessions, our Street Advocates have been instrumental in mediating disputes and building stronger relational supports for families and neighborhoods. For the fifth year we have operated a Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School. In this report we share the good news about our impact in building and reinforcing strong summer readers prepared to achieve greater success when they returned to their schools! We are indebted to the sponsors: United Way of Greater Dayton and the John Moore Society that enabled us to serve over 70 scholars, grades K-8 for the summer of 2016. The Omega CDC led the charge to assist in the development plans for the Omega Harvard Campus (formerly United Theological Seminary). Assisted by funds from the City of Dayton, the Omega CDC managed the demolition projects of two buildings; the former library and administrative office. A strategic Business Plan for Sustainability was completed with consultant, Dave Ramey President of the Strategic Leadership Associates, Inc., and some 30 key stakeholders from throughout the Dayton Community have been enlisted to envision the development of a new community center, The Hope Center for Families. We want to continue to thank everyone who has a hand in helping the Omega CDC fulfill its mission.

Everything’s better with good company, including a bike ride!

Join RISE Northwest on October 17 from 11 AM to 2 PM for a chance to meet neighbors, get moving, and explore Northwest Dayton together. Whether you ride every week or your bike’s been collecting a little dust, we’d love to have you along for the ride!

We’ll start at the Hope Center for Families. Bring your bike, bring a friend, and come roll with us!

Three inspiring days at Power of Place! Our Omega CDC team joined community leaders and our friends at Learn to Earn Dayton for learning and connection, hosted by Harlem Children's Zone. We were proud to have our President Rachel Ward, represent Omega CDC and the Hope Zone on a panel.

This was the fifth Power of Place convening, and Omega CDC has had the honor of attending all five. Each year, we bring home ideas and relationships that help us do this work a little better alongside the children, families, and neighborhoods we serve.

Our young people led the way at this year's Youth for Peace March, sharing their words, their hopes, and their vision for Northwest Dayton.

To the more than 30 partners and hundreds of neighbors who marched alongside them, thank you. You showed our youth that when they speak up for peace, a whole community stands with them.

Thank you to every volunteer, family, organization, partner, and neighbor who helped make this day possible.

On September 17, Omega CDC hosted its largest Youth for Peace March yet. We had 441 registered participants, including our staff, with even more neighbors joining us on the day of the event. The Foodbank is hosting a drive-thru food distribution tomorrow, September 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at UD Arena/Welcome Stadium. All residents are welcome.

Free health services and cat and dog food will also be available on site. Please share with anyone who could use these resources!

The Foodbank will host a Pop-Up Mass Food Distribution for Montgomery County and surrounding area residents this Thursday, September 24, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the University of Dayton Arena / Welcome Stadium (1601 S Edwin C Moses Blvd, Dayton, OH 45417).

All residents are welcome to attend. This is a drive-thru-style event, so please leave plenty of room in your car for the food to be placed.

Five Rivers Health Centers will have a mobile health clinic onsite offering free flu vaccines, blood pressure screenings, A1C tests, and help establishing primary care. Walk-ins are welcome; no appointments necessary.

SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center will also be there distributing cat and dog food.

Shout-out to CareSource for sponsoring this event and sending volunteers to help us pass out food!
