The aims and purposes of the Club are to carry out and promote activities for the betterment of the Tongue River Schools, residents of the Town of Dayton and surrounding communities of Parkman, Wolf, and Ranchester. The members of the Dayton School Benefit Club will use this page to inform people about the Historic Building, public activities, and events planned and how people can become involved
in the club. The Dayton Community Hall is owned and operated by the Dayton School Benefit Club. It is located in a residential area on the corner of Bridge Street and Third Avenue; it rests on the original main thoroughfare of this small community. In the early 30's, the Dayton Town Council recognized a need for a gathering place for residents. Susan Walling, a widow living in Dayton, owned a corner lot large enough to build such a building. February 20, 1935, Susan signed a warranty deed and transferred her property to the Town of Dayton. That year, the town submitted a Works Progress Administration project proposal ( #7846) to build the building for an estimated cost of $4,742.45. The project employed 47 men from local Civil Conservation Camps. In 1932 the Dayton School Benefit Club was formed and the title to the building was signed over to the club sometime after it was completed.
