Craig Washka was always an outdoorsy type. Even when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2004, Craig managed to get around, especially on a nearby bike path in Granville, OH. As his disease progressed confining him to bed, he knew he needed to call Ohio’s Hospice.

Because of the care he received, Craig was able to attend a special ceremony dedicating a trail in his name and receive an award for his commitment and dedication to the Licking Park District.

As part of our grief and bereavement resources, our Pathways of Hope team reviewed the book, “Fearless Living and Loving: Christian Hope for the Sick and Their Caregivers,” by John A. Love. Using metaphors that are tangible and visual, he discusses intense, difficult emotions and uses parallels with nature to normalize distressing and frightening grief experiences.

When a patient wished to deliver a final keynote speech at a statewide conference from his bed, Zachary Cordle, an Ohio’s Hospice IT support specialist, was determined to make it happen remotely. Thanks to Zach, the patient was able to give his entire speech and say goodbye to the many friends.

Our unit coordinators serve as the center of our daily operations in our Inpatient Units, working behind the scenes to ensure our patients receive the coordinated, compassionate care they deserve. From managing complex physician orders to supporting grieving families with kindness and understanding, they exemplify our mission values every single day.
