They use the skills and talents learned over the years, and develop new ones while serving in a variety of volunteer activities. The overarching organization for RSVP is Family & Community Services, Inc. F&CS seeks to support, strengthen, and empower individuals and families through a broad continuum of community-based services that meet the needs and values of the community. The agency is guided
by a commitment to individual dignity, service excellence, accountability, volunteerism and belief in the solidarity of the human family. At F&CS, we’re never content to sit still. We provide more than 71 programs, in 21 counties and in two states – Ohio and Michigan. Simply put, where there’s a need, we look for a way to meet it. The Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and over. They use the skills and talents learned over the years, and develop new ones while serving in a variety of volunteer activities within our communities. RSVP volunteers choose how, where and how often they want to serve, with commitments ranging from a few hours to 40 hours per week. Volunteers receive pre-service orientation, training from the organization where they will serve and supplemental insurance while on duty. RSVP volunteers do not receive monetary incentives, but sponsoring organizations may reimburse them for some costs incurred during service. Service opportunities are as diverse as the communities in which volunteers serve and may include:
Transporting the disabled
Providing food to the hungry
Assisting seniors with prescriptions and medical referrals
Providing capacity building for non-profit organizations
Organizing neighborhood watch programs
Tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged or disabled youth
Renovating homes
Teaching English to immigrants
Assisting victims of natural disasters
