Scrabble for Peace Initiative Cameroon: A Landmark Launch in Partnership with CAWAS Cameroon

We are thrilled to report the success of a major Scrabble event organized by the Scrabble for Peace Initiative Cameroon in partnership with CAWAS Cameroon, a renowned community-based NGO led by none other than the current national Scrabble champion, Yaya Emelienne. This landmark event, which took place in the North West region, marked the official launch of our efforts to promote Scrabble as a tool for peacebuilding, education, and community engagement.

The event was a resounding success, attracting over 50 Scrabble enthusiasts, including seasoned players and newcomers eager to learn the game. Participants came from all corners of the North West region and beyond, demonstrating the growing interest in Scrabble and its ability to unite people across different backgrounds.

We were honored by the presence of key government representatives, including officials from the offices of the Governor and the Regional Delegate for Sports, who expressed their support for this initiative. Their presence underscored the importance of this event not only for the Scrabble community but also for the region’s efforts to foster peace and social cohesion through intellectual engagement.

The launch was also covered by both local and international media, shining a spotlight on the transformative power of Scrabble. The media attention will no doubt help amplify our message and attract more interest from potential partners and supporters.

This event is just the beginning. The Scrabble for Peace Initiative Cameroon is committed to organizing more events across the country, using Scrabble as a platform to build bridges, promote literacy, and foster lasting peace in our communities. We look forward to expanding our reach and working with like-minded organizations to create more opportunities for Cameroonians to connect, learn, and grow through this wonderful game.

Empowering Women Through Words! 🧩✨

I had the privilege of representing the Scrabble for Peace Initiative, Cameroon by sharing the love of Scrabble with the incredible Wisdom Ladies, a prestigious women’s social group here in Dayton, Ohio - USA 🇺🇸🌍👩🏽‍🤝‍👩🏾

This inspiring group, made up of respected women from diverse nationalities including Congo Brazzaville 🇨🇬, Nigeria 🇳🇬, Ghana 🇬🇭, Kenya 🇰🇪 and Cameroon 🇨🇲, welcomed the initiative with open arms! It was a joy teaching them the nuances of Scrabble, a game that sharpens minds and brings people together. We also donated Scrabble boards and essential materials to encourage their continued engagement with this wonderful game.

Scrabble isn't just about words; it's about fostering connections and building bridges between cultures. A huge thank you to the Wisdom Ladies for their enthusiasm and commitment to lifelong learning. Together, we continue to spread the message of peace, unity, and empowerment—one word at a time! 🌍💫

Upon an esteemed invitation from the State of Kentucky, USA 🇺🇸, I was privileged to be part of a very prestigious Scrabble tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. I was given the floor to talk about my Scrabble for Peace Initiative in Cameroon 🇨🇲. All the participants were thrilled by our efforts and pledged to support by donating Scrabble paraphernalia such as Scrabble boards, timers, dictionaries, etc.

We have been using the game of Scrabble to bring peace to my crisis-stricken home region, the Northwest Region.

In 2019, we started a project called ‘Scrabble for Peace Initiative’ aimed at curbing the crime wave among youths in my hometown, Bamenda. Since then, this initiative has been able to teach the game of Scrabble to more than 200 youths in Bamenda! Thereby keeping idleness and violent thoughts far from their minds. This singular gesture has grossly reduced crime wave among the youths in my restive Northwest region.

The underlying idea is to get the youths engaged into something mentally enriching for them. Rather than allowing idleness lure them to engage themselves in common vices.

Our Scrabble for Peace Initiative has since 2019, been organizing Scrabble sessions and tournaments with very encouraging cash prizes for the winners.

Our initiative has a comprehensive plan to introduce the game of Scrabble in secondary schools. Beginning from schools in the Northwest and Southwest regions then gradually extending throughout the national territory (as the available resources permit).
