Active Minds is a student-run organization that strives to change the conversation about mental health through activities, volunteer work, and educating ourselves and others about the realities of mental wellness. Our organization began in the Spring of 2003 after the first MFest, which was thrown in honor of Mike Littler who died by su***de. His friends wanted to remove the stigma that surrounded
mental health on college campuses and help prevent other students who may be struggling with their mental health. It started as REACH, then became REACH Out with Active Minds in 2009 when it joined with the national organization Active Minds, and now it is just Active Minds (mostly so we wouldn't have to call it, "Reach Out with Active Minds at the University of Dayton"...which is a bit of a mouth-full, haha!)
We are passionate about stomping out the stigma regarding mental health issues and promoting a safe, aware, and accepting environment. We believe that any person should be able to receive the assistance and support they need. Here at UD, you are surrounded by a community of people who would love to do nothing more than help, even if it is as simple as listening. Your resources include:
• Friends (RAs, Fellows, study buddies, roommates)
• Family
