Until this time, individuals with disabilities were cared for by large state ran institutions that housed individuals and provided little opportunity for community membership. The first home was on Lexington Avenue in Dayton. Since then, RHA has grown throughout Montgomery County providing licensed residential services, supported living services, adult day services, respite, drop in / in home services, and transportation services. Resident Home Association (RHA), in partnership with Liberty High School and YouthBuild Dayton, is proud to spotlight its Direct Support Professional (DSP) Internship Program, a workforce development initiative designed to prepare the next generation of compassionate, skilled professionals in the field of developmental services.

A key leader in this collaboration is Joel Carson, RHA’s Staff Development and Training Coordinator, who serves as the program’s instructor. Joel brings both expertise and a deep commitment to workforce development, helping students bridge the gap between classroom learning and meaningful employment.

Over the past year, the DSP Internship Program has earned recognition for its impact and success.
The program has been honored for:
-Strengthening community–school partnerships
-Creating pathways to high-demand, purpose-driven careers
-Advancing innovative workforce development in the Dayton region

These awards underscore RHA’s commitment to investing in the future workforce. This work also reflects a growing collaboration at the state level, through Lighthouse Cove, helping to advance innovative workforce development strategies and strengthen talent pathways across Ohio.
