Grassroots movement to protect, promote, educate, and respect HUMAN RIGHTS

Dayton United for Human Rights (DUHR) is a nonprofit tax-exempt organization founded in 2021 to declare Dayton, OH a Human Rights City. The City of Dayton Commission unanimously passed a resolution committing to become a Human Rights City in 2025. Mission statement-To ensure accountability for the protection of human rights through coalition building by listening to, ducating, and involving members of the community and public officials. Purpose statement- We build alliances to advocate for the protection and promotion of human rights ensuring dignity, equality, and justice for all individuals in the Dayton region especially marginalized populations and youth. Vision statement- A just community where everyone is educated on their human rights, accountable to one another and all live in dignity

🌍 HUMAN RIGHTS EXCHANGE SERIES: Disability Pride, Accessibility & the Right to Move 🌍

This July, in recognition of Disability Pride Month and the ADA Anniversary on July 26, we’re bringing human rights into real life! ✊🏾💙

🗣️ Hear and share real-life experiences
🧰 Explore tools and resources for accessibility and advocacy
🚌 Discuss RTA access and transit equity
🏘️ Examine accessibility barriers in Dayton neighborhoods
🤝 Identify ways we can co-create more inclusive community spaces

Accessibility is more than an accommodation, it is about human dignity, freedom of movement, and the right to fully participate in community life.

Together, we’ll explore how “accessibility deserts” can isolate disabled and older residents and what we can do together to create communities where everyone can move, connect, participate, and belong. 🚌🏡❤️

Together, we will discuss two important community-driven reports:

📖 The Community Voices Report – capturing the lived experiences, concerns, and recommendations shared by community members across our region.

⚖️ The Human Rights Assessment Report – an independent assessment conducted on behalf of the City of Dayton to examine policies, practices, and opportunities to advance human rights in our community.

🌟 This is an opportunity to move from listening to action, explore key findings, identify shared priorities, and help shape the path forward for our community.

On July 12th, Dayton United for Human Rights (DUHR) joins communities around the world in celebrating iFred International Day of Hope, a day dedicated to recognizing hope as a powerful force for healing, connection, and transformation.

Hope inspires us to imagine a better future, take action in our communities, and work together to uphold human dignity, justice, and human rights for all. At DUHR, we believe hope is not passive, it is something we build through compassion, advocacy, civic engagement, and collective action.

As an official partner of the International Day of Hope, DUHR is proud to help bring this global movement to Montgomery County, creating opportunities for communities to come together, share their stories, and celebrate the possibility of change.
