The Dayton Police Department will conduct multiple juvenile curfew sweeps in June, July, and August.
In 2026 there have been more than 40 juveniles who were victims of violent crimes such as aggravated assault and aggravated robbery.
The Dayton Police Department periodically conducts juvenile curfew enforcement efforts to promote youth safety during late-night hours, when risk factors are elevated. These efforts are a proactive public safety strategy aimed at reducing late-night risks, protecting youth from victimization, and addressing identified community concerns. Curfew enforcement is one of several tools used to enhance neighborhood safety and reinforce shared community standards.
Per City of Dayton law, juveniles (anyone under the age of 18) not accompanied by a parent or guardian are not allowed to loiter, loaf, or idle on or about any public street, avenue, alley, park, or other public place between the hours of 11p.m. and 5 a.m. except under specific conditions (See R.C.G.O 137.10).
Any juvenile picked up after curfew, they will be transported to a designated police station to be picked up by a parent/guardian. Both the juvenile and parent/guardian will receive a minor misdemeanor citation. The adult will also receive a list of potential resources in hopes of preventing the juvenile from breaking curfew again. All attempts will be made to get in contact with a guardian to pick-up the juvenile, however if no guardian is located then the juvenile will be taken to the Juvenile Detention Center where they will remain until a guardian is located.
