🚨🚨 WE ARE MOVING! 🚨🚨

That’s right… Blue’s Haven Cat Rescue is in the process of moving! 🏡📦🐾

So, for the next couple of weeks, our page may be a little quieter than normal while we tackle the packing, sorting, organizing, purging and moving chaos! 😅📦

Many of you know that we are currently living in my parents’ home — a home filled with SO many memories — after both of my parents passed away last year. 💔

Then, on top of the loss of my parents, we experienced a HUGE flood loss and break-ins at our home. It has been an incredibly rough road, filled with more emotions, changes and challenges than we ever could have imagined.

We are moving to a temporary location for now while we continue working toward purchasing our FOREVER HOME. 🏡💙

Our hope is that by Spring, we will finally be settled into our forever home and can really start JUMPING back into everything — rescue, fundraising, events, adoptions and all the craziness that comes with BHCR! 🐾💙🩵

And don’t worry… WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE! 😉🐾

We will still be actively rescuing cats whenever we can, and we still have some pretty amazing kitties looking for their forever families! 🐱❤️ If you’re looking to add a furry family member to your life, please send us a message. 🏡🐾

💜🦋 A LITTLE PIECE OF MY HEART FOR DOLLY 🦋💜

Some people come into your life for a little while… and some become a part of your heart before you’re even old enough to understand just how much they will mean to you. 💜

My love for Dolly Parton started all the way back in second grade. We were studying Appalachian History, learning about the people, the culture, the traditions, and the incredible strength that comes from the Appalachian Mountains. And as part of a play we put on, I sang “Coat of Many Colors.” 🎶🧥💜

I was just a little girl then, but somehow Dolly’s words stuck with me.

As I grew older, so did my appreciation for her. It wasn’t just her music. It was her heart. Her kindness. Her generosity. Her ability to never forget where she came from while using everything she had been blessed with to help others. 🥹💜

And maybe that is why Dolly has always held such a special place in my heart.

Because here at 💙🩵 Blue’s Haven Cat Rescue 🩵💙, we believe that the smallest, most vulnerable lives deserve to be loved, protected, and given a chance too. 🐾💜

Dolly Parton has spent a lifetime showing the world that you don’t have to be wealthy in spirit to make a difference—you simply have to be willing to give from your heart. ❤️

So today, from this little rescue and from the little girl who stood on a stage in second grade singing Coat of Many Colors, I just want to say:

Thank you, Dolly. 💜

Thank you for the music.
Thank you for the memories.
Thank you for reminding generations of us that kindness matters.
Thank you for showing us that where you come from doesn’t determine how much good you can put into the world.

And that little second-grade girl who sang Coat of Many Colors?

She still carries those words in her heart. 🥹💜

I’m not sure who left this on our porch a few months ago, but the cats LOVE it! This “donut” is used by every single cat in the house and has been a HUGE hit for BHCR. So THANK YOU to whoever left this for the kitties 💙🩵

🦜 “FAKE BIRD”?! Y’all… Let Me Introduce You to Roscoe! 😂🦜

WOW. 😂 So apparently we need to clear something up from yesterday’s post because someone commented that our picture was fake and that the “bird” was just edited onto the cat bed. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Well folks… Roscoe is VERY MUCH REAL! 🦜💙

My parents got Roscoe the summer I turned 16, which means this crazy feathered character has been part of my life for 27 YEARS! 🥹💙 And yes, yesterday he really did decide that one of the cat beds looked like the perfect place to hang out. Apparently cat beds aren’t just for cats! 😂

Roscoe occasionally likes to fly around the house, and yesterday he decided to stretch his wings and then casually landed on the cat bed like he owned the place. 😂 There are NO ceiling fans in the main rooms, so he is safe to fly around when he feels the need.

Yes, he has a very large cage, but honestly, he mostly uses it to eat, and he’ll go in at night most of the time—or sometimes during the day when he wants a nap. 😴🦜

And if you think Roscoe and the cats don’t get along… LOOK BEHIND HIM IN THE WINDOW! 👀🐱

Yep. There’s one of his little friends hanging out right there. 😂 Roscoe has the ability to go over there and give that cat a good old-fashioned birdie bite if he wanted to, but instead he just looks at them like:

“Hey Buddy… ya back for more?” 😂😂😂

As a matter of fact, one of my parents’ cats will actually climb INSIDE ROSCOE’S CAGE to drink his water, and Roscoe just looks at her like, “Seriously? Again?” 🤣

Now, before anyone thinks we’ve completely lost our minds… YES, we still use our heads! 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

At the end of the day, Roscoe is a bird and we have cats, so we are always mindful of safety and supervision. We know better than to assume that every bird and every cat will be best friends.

But Roscoe has spent his entire life around cats, and he’s definitely got his own opinions about them. 😂

For those who don’t know him, Roscoe is a Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot 🦜💛💚 and these birds can live upwards of 80 years. He will be a part of our family for the rest of his life. 💙

And BOY does he have a personality!

Roscoe:
📱 Answers “HELLO!” when he hears our phones ringing
😂 Laughs
🇺🇸 Sings some of the words to God Bless America
😭 Mimics me crying—which he learned because I did A LOT of that after losing my parents so close together last year 💔
🤦🏼‍♀️ Screams “OH MY GOD!”
🚨 Yells “HELP!”
👧 Hollers for the kids
🎶 Whistles
…and generally keeps everyone on their toes. 😂

He’s definitely an interesting character!

And now that we are fostering cats, I’m realizing Roscoe might actually be the BEST cat socialization trainer we never knew we had. 😂

Because if these foster babies can grow up around a giant, loud, colorful parrot who randomly screams “HELP!” and “OH MY GOD!”… I’m pretty sure they’re going to be prepared for just about anything! 🤣🐱🦜

So YES… Roscoe is real.
YES… that was a real picture.
NO… he was NOT photoshopped onto the cat bed. 😂

And apparently we now have to add “bird bed” to the list of things we didn’t know we needed around here. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Now I want to know… WHO ELSE HAS A HOUSEHOLD WITH MULTIPLE SPECIES THAT HAVE COMPLETELY ACCEPTED EACH OTHER AS FAMILY?! 🐱🦜🐶❤️

Apparently, nobody told Roscoe! 🤣

After 2️⃣7️⃣ YEARS of living his best life surrounded by cats, this boy has apparently decided that he is, in fact, an honorary cat. 🦜🐱

And naturally… that means CAT BEDS = ROSCOE BEDS. 😂

Honestly, I’m not even sure what’s more adorable — the fact that he has claimed one of the kitties’ beds, or the fact that after all these years around cats, he seems to have picked up ALL their habits! 😹

He’s basically saying, “I’ve lived with cats my whole life. I KNOW how this works.” 😂😂

At BHCR, apparently we don’t discriminate… if it’s comfy, it’s for EVERYONE! 🥰💙🩵
