Lean on Jesus

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Never waste your pain.” I heard this many years ago by John Eldredge, Wild at Heart Ministries. It has stuck with me through all my darkest days.

When we are crushed in spirit, the world comes in like a clanging gong. It will speak all kinds of nasty lies to us and lead us in a direction away from the Lord. We tend to flee any kind of pain or discomfort. Seriously, who wants to sit in the nastiness of hurt and pain?

Don’t waste your pain because this is a time of closeness with God. How can He be our Comforter if we refuse to be comforted? Take this time to rest in Jesus, crawl into Father God’s lap and let Him Father you. Put all of your burdens on Jesus. He WILL carry it all.

The closeness to Jesus that you will experience is life changing. I encourage you to seek Jesus in these hardest times and soak in the closeness you will have with Him.

Father God, teach us to allow Your rescue when we are crushed in spirit. Teach us to let it go and let You love us. We don’t want to live in pain, but we crave Your love and presence. Please be near to us, and bring Your healing. In Jesus Name.

Worthy is the Lamb

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ NIV‬‬

Sometimes song lyrics can speak a mountain of truth in a few words:
You are worthy of it all
You are worthy of it all
For from You are all things
And to You are all things
You deserve the glory
(Worthy of it All, Songwriters: David Brymer / Ryan Hall)

Can you shout praises to the Lord? Can you put on the garment of Praise (Isaiah 61:3)? Our hearts need to shout to the Lord!

If all creatures in heaven and earth, all angels, elders, kings… if they can all shout, “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise,” then so can we! ‭‭(Revelation‬ ‭5‬:‭12‬)

I have often struggled with praise and worship. Lately, I’ve noticed that the more I see Jesus perform miracles in my life, the more I want to shout praises to Him. Even in hard times, I want to shout praises to the Lord!

As my heart changes, I start to understand the deeper importance of worship. My heart craves it! It makes me feel alive! Worship is for me and my heart! It’s not some ritual that we have to do at church because we are told to. It’s filling, healing, and ushers in the Spirit of God.

I encourage you to find some good worship songs and sing them out loud in times of joy and times of sorrow. Let me know how it changes your heart.

Father God, You are worthy of our praise and worship! Jesus, You are worthy of our praise and worship! If all the angels praise You, then so shall I! Praise You Jesus! Thank You for rescuing us! We love You! Teach us the value of worship and praise! In Jesus Name.

Called

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.
2 Thessalonians 1:11

I've been told my whole life, "There is a calling on your life." What does that even mean? It sounds like profound gibberish that no one can explain or understand. We often focus hard to figure out what that calling is before throwing in the towel and settling for whatever pays the bills.

At what point do we realize that something got missed along the way? Were we all supposed to be preachers? Goodness, NO!!!! Your calling may be exactly what you are doing right now!

Psalm 37:23-24
The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.

We all have a role to play in God's story of rescue and redemption. Will you answer the call to be a garbage man, janitor, truck driver, fisherman, preacher, missionary, pimple popper, hair follicle specialist, or whatever the Lord ordains? You are needed in the place that fills your heart because God sets His people in all corners of the earth.

“…that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness.” Your heart will tell you where your calling is. It can be hard, but fulfilling! You’ll know your calling if you allow the Lord to order your footsteps, and those steps fill your heart with the joy of the Lord.

We delight in the ways of the Lord and He delights in us. Dig into Him and let the roots of His take hold in your heart and lead you on a God sized adventure!

Father God, prepare a path for us to follow and find the true calling on our life. Use us for Your Kingdom right where we are, but take us to the true man/woman we were created to be. In Jesus Name!

Becoming Complacent

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18

God is working! As Americans, I feel that we become complacent in living in a Christian Nation. As this erodes, we must grasp even harder on the things that are unseen.

Be renewed! Let’s grow in our relationship with Christ! Through troubles and persecution, our reliance on Christ is strengthened. Our persecutions are light in comparison to that seen in other parts of the world.

We do not fear spending years in prison for professing our faith, or fear death just for going to church. Yet we are complacent in our own little worlds and unmotivated to share the story of Jesus with others despite the freedom to do so.

Why is that? Why is it that people face torture and prison to share the story of Christ with others, yet we sit back and wait for someone to beg us to share Jesus with them?

What is seen is temporary...we only have a small window of time to share the gospel...what is unseen is eternal, so we need to NOT keep the unseen to ourselves! I speak as the first one to have failed in this! I encourage you to speak up...I encourage you to keep me accountable. And I will do my best to do the same for you!

Father God! Send Your Holy Spirit to use us! Turn our eyes and hearts to that which is unseen! Use our mouths to speak Your truth and share Your story and message to those needing to hear it! In Jesus name!

All New

“See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭65‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Something about God promising to make a new earth fires me up. My heart leaps with joy and longing. I long for all the trauma we have endured to no longer be remembered or come to mind.

This is a promise of freedom, and it’s a promise to all of us. God is giving us hope in this promise through His Son Jesus Christ. When we join His Kingdom and endure the hardships on this earth, He will heal all our hurts and pains. We will be fully restored into the sons/daughters He created us to be.

“I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭65‬:‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Have hope! What we endure here is a short time compared to eternity in the Kingdom of God! You are invited into His Kingdom through Jesus Christ! This is where HOPE lives…

Father God, we have Hope in Your restored Kingdom. Please take away the tears and the pains of this earth. Give us a spirit of strength to endure the hardships upon us, and teach us to keep our eyes fixed on You. Please forgive us where we fail you, and prepare a place for us in Your house. In Jesus name!

Redemption for All

But [King] Manasseh led Judah and the people of Jerusalem astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites.
2 Chronicles 33:9

The story of redemption started long before Jesus died on the cross for our sins. God’s grace and mercy has been seen since the beginning of the time. His love for us runs deeper than we can ever imagine. Manasseh is an example of redemption beyond what we can even fathom.

King Manasseh did every abomination possible against God and God’s people whom he ruled. He even sacrificed His own children. How can God redeem such a monster?

Our sins are just as dirty. Our abominations against God are just as heinous. I know I have ridiculed and chastised God through my life of disobedience. I even thought I was honoring Him by saying that I loved Him and professed to be a christian. Yet, I lived in the sinful nature described in Galatians 5:19-21:
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Manasseh was forgiven and redeemed when “he sought the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors” (v12). If he can find favor in the eyes of God with all of his sin, then we can find favor in the eyes of God through Jesus Christ.

God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Our sins have all been bought and paid for, we need only ask Jesus into our hearts, confess and renounce our sins, and follow His commands. Eternal life is ours…free of charge because Jesus paid the price.

God wants you in His Kingdom. He loves you enough to forgive what we consider to be unforgivable. Give Him a chance. Reach out to us if you want to know more. [email protected] or send a DM.

Father God, Your depths of love and forgiveness are unfathomable. How are we to understand Your ways? Reveal Yourself to us in new ways, forgive us where we fail You, lead us into Your righteousness, teach us Your commands, and teach us to follow You. In Jesus Name!

Life is Better Together

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24-25

How do we think we are going to make it through this world on our own? I feel so ashamed of the many times I have made the agreement that I need to do things on my own and that no one else is reliable. This is so wrong. I need encouragement, I need fellowship, and I need brotherhood.

I wish I could count the times that I have forsaken meeting up together. I used to feel that since I am the church, I no longer needed to go to church. I felt like I could just read my bible, a devotional, and think about how godly I am. How arrogant is that? How do we “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” if we refuse to meet up with other christians?

The Hebrews writer must have known me well, and God got me on this pretty hard. One of the biggest reasons my heart was set on fire for Fisherman’s Fellowship was because so many of us were not meeting together, spurring each other on, or encouraging one another. We would meet at a lake, compete, talk fishing, but rarely was Jesus Christ a part of that.

How does this resonate in your life? Life is hard! It’s much easier when we do it together. Be encouraged that your fellowship with other believers is important to you and those around you. We glean wisdom from one another, fight for one another, and love one another. I don’t know about you, but I can’t survive without those things.

Father God, forgive us when we have forsaken meeting with others. Give us a heart for Your people and for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Unite us as a strong army banded together to fight for Your Kingdom. We need each other and we need You God. So please bring us together. In Jesus Name.

I Want to Go to Heaven

“…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

There is a sweetness to hearing these words, “you will be saved.” I feel like I neglect the simple message that salvation is through Jesus Christ and no other way.

Jesus makes it clear that He is “the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). He literally died for you to have a path to His Father’s Kingdom.

There has never been a greater love than Jesus giving His life on the cross for you and me. There has been no greater sacrifice than Father God giving His Son to the world to be crucified, dead, and buried. No greater victory has the world ever seen than Jesus rising from the grave and being given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matt 28:18).

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭15‬-‭16
Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Who do you say Jesus is?

Father God, thank you for Your Son Jesus Christ. Teach us to rule in His authority. Let us know in all our being that He is Your Son and our salvation. Welcome us into Your Kingdom as clean and forgiven sons and daughters. In Jesus Name.

Funny Feeling

“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
Ephesians 4:26-27

Have you ever heard any of these terms in your life? “Suck it up.” “Walk it off.” “Big boys/girls don’t cry.” “Don’t let them see you cry.” The world doesn’t seem very interested in letting us process our feelings. This is how we build up walls, make agreements to not let anyone in too close, and simply shut everyone and everything out of our hearts…including Jesus.

This is nothing new and Jesus knew it. His first words when he announced his ministry included “heal the brokenhearted” (Luke 4:18-21). Someone has to deal with the painful emotions we have buried in the brokenness of our hearts, and no one is more qualified than Jesus.

Jesus gave us permission to feel. He said for us not to sin in our anger. He doesn’t say to never feel angry. When we walk into hard things, we will always feel the gravity of the situation. Many times, feelings will indicate what is going on in our heart, spirit, and soul. If we will listen to His advice “taking every thought captive” (2 Corinthians 10:3-6), then we can let the emotion reveal our true heart without letting it run freely through our life.

When I feel fear, I ask Jesus into it and search out where fear is coming in. Fear is usually a lie. When it’s put up against the Word of God and filtered through prayer to Jesus, then fear has no ground to stand. There is no emotion that Jesus doesn’t know. If He doesn’t take it, He will always stand in it with you.

Father God, teach us to understand how our emotions point to You. Teach us to search You out even in the hardest and most hurtful times. You built us with these wild emotions for a reason, and we trust You with all that we are. Come for our hearts. In Jesus name.

Justified Through Faith

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Romans 5:1-5

I know I have said this before, but it is so powerful! JUSTIFIED THROUGH FAITH!!!! Gained access to God's GRACE!!!! And the understanding that our struggles/sufferings will make us stronger in GOD!!! Nothing is for naught...not even the trials that lead us to persevere. It builds character and shapes us into the people God desires us to be! Having HIS love poured out into my heart through the Holy Spirit is such an awesome feeling and experience. I hope and pray that you have experienced that.

If not, start with John 3:16 & Romans 10:9-10. Ask Jesus into be your savior and come into your heart. Profess Him as the Son of God and ask Him for rescue! Learn His ways and let Him lead you deeper in relationship.

Father God, we know that our struggles lead us to YOU. I pray that we all get to experience Your love poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Help us stay focused on You even in the toughest of sufferings. Your Grace is POWER and is sufficient for all of us. In Jesus Name!
