In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we decided to and share the Serotonin and Dopamine.

Mental health issues are not rare, including in the Church. More than 1 in 5 Americans live with at least one mental illness. No one should be left to fight alone.

If you are struggling with your mental health, please don't keep it to yourself! You deserve help. Reach out to a person you trust, or call or text the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

Today, we celebrate the memory of the men and women who gave their lives in service to their fellow Americans. We recognize the sacrifices that these men and women made to keep us safe and protect our freedoms, and we honor the families and friends who never got to see their loved ones come home.

"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
-John 15:13 (ESV)

There was LOTS of laughter at Game Night this week! And, of course, the dogs wanted to be involved. We played Jackbox games so some of the young adults from out of town could join remotely, and a few theologians (the game's name for them, not ours) played the expanded version of The Bible is Funny.

We love to laugh and play games together, but our goal is to build young adults up in the difficult and chaotic seasons of life, as well as the good times. Transparency and growth happen where people feel at homeβ€”where they know they are safe.

Would you prayerfully consider helping us maintain that "home away from home" environment for young adults by becoming a monthly supporter? If you feel led to do so, you can set up a tax-deductible donation through the link in our bio!

At Game Night this week, we had an (unplanned) nature theme for our games πŸŒΈπŸ›

One group competed to grow the healthiest, most impressive trees, while the other group gathered nectar and grubs to attract the most birds to their land.

Most of the snacks we keep around for the young adults are running low. We want to restock before the college students are back in the fall, so we created an Amazon wish list with some snacks we already know they love! If you'd like to help provide snacks for the young adults to enjoy during study breaks or while playing games at Bethesda House, you can find our wish list here: https://a.co/0esDjD1F

Hi! Katie, here. I don't often write posts, but just this once I am going to hop on here and give a special shout out to the woman behind the scenes:

Meet our AMAZING Marketing Director, AJ Humpleby-Heil!

AJ is a former young adult served by Bethesda Ministries and has now stepped into serving with Bethesda Ministries using the talents the Lord has given her. She shares, "I came to college at Bryan College burnt out, still hurting from a number of failed friendships, and not knowing a single person in Dayton...During my first semester, my friend (now husband), Marcus, introduced me to Tim and Katie. They took me under their wings almost immediately. They showed me a level of compassion and acceptance that radically transformed my expectations and hopes for how members of the Church should love each other. After the healing that I experienced in these relationships, I knew that I wanted to be a part of helping other young people feel seen and valued in that way."

In addition to being a wizard at running our social media and all other marketing things we throw her way, AJ works in quality control for a tech company that specializes in generative AI models. She attended Bryan College from 2020-2022 and finished her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English through Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in 2023. She is currently working toward a Master of Science in Child and Development Psychology from SNHU.

AJ is married to Marcus Heil, the Men's Ministry Director of Bethesda Ministries. In her free time she is often found cooking, sewing, drawing, or listening to fiction podcasts. AJ is fascinated by animal and plant biology, especially anything related to reptiles and amphibians, and loves to share this fascination with the young adults she interacts with. Her favorite part of being involved in this ministry is the privilege we get to observe the lives of the young men and women we serve and watch them realize that they don't have to perform to be loved by us or by God.

AJ is truly a delight to serve with and it has been fun to see God grow her from a young adult into leading in service to young adults!

With the college students at home for the summer, we had a very small Game Night last night, but we had no shortage of fun with the young adults who live in the area! The smaller group size also worked very well for trying out a new board game.
