ANNOUNCEMENT! Introducing: Facets Theatre!
For those of you who were able to join us for our 2023 summer performances, we teased some changes happening for Brighter Connections Theatre in 2024.
When we began collaborating with University of Dayton Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology Program in 2016, we had no idea what our very tiny community would turn into moving forward. Big visions turned into reality, such as the expansion of our age groups that transformed from 1 program into 3 that also served adults. We held our annual Improv All Stars fundraiser on UD's campus with On The Fly Improv for a total of 4 years and added in additional workshops in the fall and spring. Participants were able to have access to the full theatrical process of putting on a show with hands on experience in sound, lighting, costume design, props, and set design with professionals. Together, we had 7 summer performances in the Black Box Theatre (8 including online in 2020) of original sketches written and featuring the always talented cast members of BCT.
This partnership has also introduced over 30 UD student interns to BCT's mission and core values. While our wording has changed over the years, at the heart of it has always been to celebrate the talent neurodiverse people can bring to the stage. We feel proud that these young adults are now off in the post graduate world using the skills, mindsets, and approaches they strengthened during their experiences working with BCT.
While BCT is "dissolving" as a nonprofit organization, our desire to create compelling theatrical experiences in an inclusive environment for neurodiverse people will continue at UD through Facets Theatre. This summer will offer a diverse set of programming (puppetry! theatre design! dance!) in addition to our usual sketch/improv offerings. You'll see many of the same faces from years past as well as many UD faculty members! While it's bittersweet to put an ending to the name, we are excited at the opportunities that lie ahead for our community without the constraints that come with being a nonprofit.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this 10 year journey! It has been very special to personally be a part of as we close Act I and begin another. Please see the link below for this summer's offerings at Facets Theatre, housed in the brand new Roger Glass Center for the Arts!
