ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT
To all Varsity D Club members:
As of 2015 your VDC dues and/or extra monetary donations are no longer "tax deductible"! Here's how this happened:
(1) In 2014 VDC board members Ron Flore, Art Camacho, and Steve Siewe had several meetings with Mike Kelly (asst. AD at UD) re. turning over the Club to UD's Athletic Dept.;
(2) In early 2015 the full board of directors decided that the VDC would remain an independent "social" club and said no to UD;
(3) In the spring of 2015 UD's Athletic Dept.disallowed the VDC's use of their 501c3 tax ID number;
(4) In the summer of 2015 I brought Lee Falke, a local prominent attorney and former VDC board member, to a board meeting and he told the board that his firm would do the work necessary for the VDC to reacquire its former 501c3 tax ID number "free of charge!" as a favor to the Club;
(5) After tabling this issue for several meetings, the issue was brought up at an early fall 2015 meeting where pres. Flore and Camacho led a motion for the Club NOT to take up Mr Falke's offer to reacquire the Club's original 501c3 tax ID number which passed with only myself and treasurer Dan Andrick dissenting.
Therefore, the VDC is no longer a "tax exempt" organization as of 2015 and the future. I wanted to tell you this now as many of you are getting ready to file your 2015 income tax forms.
I have also resigned from the board of directors over this matter retroactive to Dec. 31, 2015 after serving on the board for approx. 40 years. Sincerely,
Tom "Lead-O" Ledinsky
