In celebration of Indigenous Peoples' Day, we're honored to kick off our 2026-2027 Dayton Live Discovery Series with the highly anticipated return of STARR CHIEF EAGLE, a hoop dancer extraordinaire, from the Sicangu Lakota Sioux Tribe.
The Hoop Dance is a powerful expression of Indigenous culture that embodies core values such as respect, creativity, determination, and balance. Rooted in tradition and performed by numerous Indigenous nations across the United States and Canada, this ancient dance is both a spiritual practice and a storytelling art. The hoops symbolize peace, unity, healing, and balance, and are used to form intricate shapes, designs, and figures that convey deeply personal and cultural stories.
