Today, we celebrate Juneteenth—a day that commemorates freedom, honors resilience, and reminds us of the ongoing pursuit of justice.
Juneteenth commemorates the day freedom was finally announced to enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865. While emancipation unfolded unevenly across the country and freedom was not experienced equally or immediately by all, Juneteenth has become a powerful symbol of liberation, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.
Juneteenth is both a celebration and a reminder.
It is a celebration of courage, perseverance, and the enduring spirit of those who never stopped believing in freedom. It is also a reminder that progress is not always immediate, and that justice often requires persistence, community, and collective action.
Freedom Is an Ongoing Journey
At Harriet Tubman Freedom Fighters, we understand that freedom is more than a moment in history. It is an ongoing journey. Every effort to educate voters, support students, develop leaders, advocate for justice, and strengthen our communities is part of that journey.
As we reflect on the meaning of Juneteenth, we honor those who came before us by continuing the work they began. We recognize that the struggle for equality, opportunity, and dignity is not finished—but neither is our commitment.
Today, we celebrate Black history, Black excellence, and the generations of people who have worked to expand freedom in America. We also look ahead with hope, knowing that meaningful change is possible when ordinary people come together to make a difference.
