Thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers who helped fill our garden beds and children’s grow bags with soil today! Special thanks to Gregory Muhammad, who, in conjunction with the University of Dayton Psychology Intern program, is helping oversee this project throughout the summer, and to Jim Wellman, who assisted with the building of the beds and donated the dense nutrient soil to fill the beds.

Our Shelter Growth Project fosters community among our partners, volunteers, staff, and guests as they plant and tend the vegetables grown at the shelter. Working together in the fresh air on a project that instills a sense of pride and purpose helps guests develop life skills while providing a safe place to breathe and find peace outside the shelter. A happy bonus: as the vegetables are harvested, our kitchen staff will use them to help offset food costs and provide our guests with nutritious meals.

Happy National Volunteer Week! Want to serve the community and spend time with your friends? Volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul can give you BOTH.

Meet Heather. She’s recently retired and spends a few hours each week at CityThift, St. Vincent de Paul's nonprofit thrift store. While she’s there, she sorts donations and sets items out in the store. The best part? She serves with three of her friends. Serving together helps their friendship stay connected each week. Thank you for your service, ladies!
