On April 27, 1992, the Board of Directors of Rotary International officially approved the Rotary Club of Dawson County. Charter night was held on May 28, 1992 at the Amicalola Falls Lodge in Dawson County. The charter officers were: Philip Hester, President; David Wallace, President-elect; and Lake Gibson, Secretary/Treasurer. Since its inception the Rotary Club has met each Thursday morning at 7:

30 a.m. On July 1, 1993, David Wallace was installed as the Club's second President, followed by Lake Gibson, 1994, Deborah Stowers, 1995, and Ted Bearden, 1996. The Club has received the Rotary International Presidential Citation award for outstanding service to the community several times since its inception. The Club first met at the What's Cookin Restaurant on Highway 53 in Dawsonville. In August 1992 the Vandivere House catered the meal for our meetings at a building located on Georgia 400 donated by Donald Moss. In September 1992 the Club began meeting at the Reservation Steakhouse on Georgia 400. In December 1992 we held our first meeting at the Dawsonville Pool Room, the most unique and popular place the Club had yet met. Due to the growth of our Club, in November 1995 began meeting at Gold Creek Golf Club. The golf course closed in 2008 and meetings were moved to the Lakeview Center on Dawson Forest Road. When the Lakeview Center closed in 2014, the meetings were moved to the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in downtown Dawsonville. In 2017 the club moved over to the Dawson County Board of Education's Professional Development Center.

The Rotary Club of Dawson County would like to thank our own Chris Gaines for an outstanding program today.

Chris spoke about the fingerprints we leave on the lives of others through our actions, service, and commitment to our community. He reminded us that every act of kindness, every opportunity to serve, and every effort we make as Rotarians leaves a lasting impression on those around us. His message encouraged us to be intentional about the legacy we create and the positive impact we have on our neighbors and community.

Thank you, Chris, for sharing such a meaningful and inspiring message. We are grateful for your dedication to Rotary and for challenging us to continue making a difference through Service Above Self.

We would like to share the excitement of Barbara Vermillion as our incoming District 6910 Area 4 Governor.

Barbara is native of the Washington, DC area. Barbara graduated from American University’s School of Public Health in 1983 with a BS in business and management. She enjoyed a distinguished 38-year federal career at the National Institutes of Health, advancing to senior management before retiring in 2007.

In retirement, Barbara has been deeply committed to community service through organizations like The Bowen Center for the Arts (where she served as Board President) and the Dawson County Woman’s Club. She joined the Rotary Club of Dawson County in 2016 and quickly became a vital member — serving as Family of Rotary, Club Secretary, Treasurer, and President. A Paul Harris Fellow and Sustaining Member, she was named Rotarian of the Year in 2022.

Barbara is happily married to Don, mother to Michael (and Erin), and proud grandmother of four.

We are thrilled to have Barbara’s dedication, experience, and leadership as she steps into the role of District 6910 Area 4 Governor!

Gratitude for a Year of Service & Excitement for the Year Ahead Honoring Leadership Transition: Thank You, Amy – Welcome, Bobby”

One of the important responsibilities of the incoming president of the Rotary Club of Dawson County is coordinating our annual golf tournament. This year, we are pleased to once again express our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the outstanding success of our 35th Annual Rotary Golf Tournament.

We extend a special thank you to our generous sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and all the golfers who participated. Your enthusiasm and support created a memorable day of friendly competition and camaraderie, while advancing our shared commitment to community service.

We are especially grateful to Outgoing President Amy Barfield for her outstanding leadership and dedicated service throughout the past year. Amy’s vision and unwavering commitment have made a lasting and positive impact on both our club and the Dawson County community. Thank you, Amy, for your exceptional efforts.

As we warmly welcome Incoming President Bobby Bross, we look forward to the year ahead with great anticipation. Proceeds from this year’s golf tournament will directly support the club’s budget, empowering us to expand our service initiatives and make an even greater impact in the community during the upcoming fiscal year.

We also wish to recognize the beautiful and thoughtfully prepared gift baskets and raffle items that added so much excitement and enjoyment to the event. The creativity and generosity of those who contributed these items greatly enhanced the experience for all involved.

Thanks to the collective efforts of our sponsors, volunteers, players, and supporters, the Rotary Club of Dawson County continues to uphold its mission of Service Above Self, creating meaningful and lasting change throughout our community.

Thank you again for your time, generosity, and commitment. We are truly grateful and look forward to your continued support in the year to come.
