Exciting news, Dawson County! 🎉💙
We are thrilled to share that four more local businesses have officially signed up to become Foster Friendly! This means even more support, more resources, and more welcoming spaces for children and families in foster care throughout our community.
Every new business that joins this movement strengthens the network of care right here at home — and we couldn’t be more grateful for their commitment. Together, we’re building a Dawson County where every child feels valued, supported, and included.

A few weeks ago, we highlighted chronic absenteeism. This week, we’re looking at one of the key reasons behind it — school avoidance.

Sometimes repeated absences start with what’s happening below the surface: anxiety, peer conflict, academic struggles, or stress at home. These challenges can make showing up feel overwhelming, turning occasional school avoidance into chronic absenteeism.

Instead of asking, “How do we make them go?”
A more helpful question is, “What is making it hard to go?”

By understanding the root causes, we can support students before small struggles become big barriers.

Today kicks off Su***de Prevention Month!

You may not always know what someone is going through. A check‑in, a listening ear, or sharing the right resource at the right moment can make a real difference.
***dePrevention starts with connection.

Learn the warning signs of su***de—for the people in your life and for yourself. Changes in mood, sleep, or behavior; withdrawing from others; or talking about having no reason to live are important signals: samhsa.gov/mental-health/suicidal-behavior/warning-signs

Start the conversation. Talking openly about su***de reduces stigma and helps people ask for help. Here’s how to begin:
samhsa.gov/find-support/helping-someone/how-to-talk-to-someone-about-help

Su***de Prevention starts with all of us. Together, we can create communities where people feel seen, supported, and connected. Learn more: samhsa.gov/mental-health/suicidal-behavior/prevention

Ask for help, even when it feels like the hardest step. FindSupport.gov gives you tools to reach out, find care, and support someone you love.

Everyone deserves to feel seen, appreciated, and valued. It’s amazing how a simple act of kindness, a word of encouragement, or a moment of genuine listening can completely change someone’s day. 💛

When people feel valued, they thrive — and so do our communities. Let’s keep showing up for one another in small but meaningful ways. You never know the impact you might have.

Together, we can create a place where everyone feels like they matter. đź’™
