Lumpkin Dawson Special Olympics is no longer a division of Special Olympics of Georgia. We lost our Accreditation on Nov 1st. I had met with parks and recreation of Dawson and Lumpkin County and they had agreed to take over the management of Lumpkin Dawson SOGA but failed to do so in time. If anyone or group of folks want to take over running this division, please contact SOGA at their main office. Contact information on their website.
I’ve been honored to spend the last 15 years with some amazing athletes, partners and coaches. I wish you all the best. If you want your son or daughter to continue any Special Olympics event you will have to go out of county. May God Bless you all and I hope you all stay well and have a Merry Christmas

I have some good news !! Dawson and Lumpkin County's Park and Rec directors are hosting a meeting for us to come and talk to them about saving Lumpkin Dawson SOGA, on Monday Aug 29th at Rock Creek Park at 12 pm.
If you can not make it, please stay in touch so you can be updated. If you plan to be there please let me know so I can tell them how many will attend.

With a sad heart, I’m posting to see if there are any groups or organizations, parents, clubs or anyone in Lumpkin and/or Dawson County interested in continuing Lumpkin Dawson Special Olympics. Due to the last few years Covid has shut down all game play in our communities. (We typically were able to participate in Fall Bocce and Winter bowling)
Our management team, coaches, volunteers and athletes have all faded out during the couple of years of covid and ALL of our background checks, concussion certifications, certifications for coaches, training for volunteers, and medicals for athletes have ALL expired. New Accreditation is also coming up this fall and I have 1-2 parents willing to try to stay on board, but they can NOT do this alone. It takes a village!!
Lumpkin and Dawson School system DOES NOT affiliate with Special Olympics so it has to be an outside group or agency to take over the management team.
If you or anyone you know is interested in being a part of this organization please contact me directly at [email protected] , We will need at least 5-7 more board members, 3-4 coaches to be certified, lots of volunteers and athletes to have their medicals completed. Without community support our two counties are at risk of losing Special Olympics all together!
