Yesterday was a powerful reminder of what happens when vision meets partnership. We were honored to host our friends from the Chickasaw Nation as we began planning for another incredible season of Camp Survivor!
From trying out the new Adventure Park to planning for the summer, the energy was unmatched. The Chickasaw Nation is more than a donor; they are a cornerstone of our mission. Their incredible generosity in capital projects and annual giving ensures that more kids than ever have the chance to experience Camp Classen.
We were also thrilled to see them recently recognized as a Mission Partner by the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City. Chokma’shki (thank you) for your unwavering support and for helping us build a brighter future for our youth!

Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication: Honoring Russell Gholson

Today, we celebrate a true legend at YMCA Camp Classen—Russell Gholson! For 20 years, Russell has been the heart and soul of our equestrian program, managing a herd of 30 horses and shaping the lives of countless campers and outdoor education students.

Often mistaken for a cowboy, he’ll quickly remind you—he’s a horseman. And a great one at that! Under his guidance, many wranglers have gone on to successful careers in the equestrian field, carrying with them the lessons learned from Russell’s wisdom and passion.

Beyond the saddle, Russell’s storytelling, humor, and unwavering faith make him someone who leaves a lasting impression on everyone he meets. His enthusiasm for the ranch is truly contagious, and Camp Classen wouldn’t be the same without him.

Join us in thanking Russell for two decades of dedication, mentorship, and unforgettable memories. Here’s to many more years on the trail!
