Powwow at UC Davis

The UC Davis Big Time Committee has been working hard to continue hosting Big Time at UC Davis. One of our biggest challenges in making this gathering possible is securing the funding needed to support the event and our community.

We are asking community to support our crowdfunding campaign. Donations will help fund dancer and drum group honoraria, cultural leaders, travel and lodging assistance, food and hospitality, event logistics, accessibility efforts, and community outreach.

Sustained investment in Big Time demonstrates UC Davis’ commitment to Native communities and helps ensure this important cultural tradition continues to thrive for future generations.

Did you attend the Inaugural UC Davis Big Time this past April? If so, we want to hear from you!

The UC Davis Big Time Planning Committee is gathering impact statements from Native students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, performers, vendors, and attendees to better understand the impact Big Time has had on Indigenous community, cultural visibility, student belonging, education, and community connection.

These statements may be used to support future funding, advocacy, outreach, and continued support for Big Time and Indigenous programming.

Join us at 12:30pm at the UC Davis Powwow to honor the life of our long-time Master of Ceremonies, Tom Phillips, with a Blanket Dance, Empty Chair, and Honor Song, expressing our utmost gratitude for the hard work and dedication Tom has shown to the UC Davis Powwow committee and community throughout the many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during these difficult times.

Join us for the 50th Annual UC Davis Powwow this Saturday, April 4th, 2026! As, we get closer to our event we kindly ask you to attend with respect and proper protocol, through following our Powwow Etiquette:

General Respect and Conduct

- No alcohol, drugs or being under the influence

- Appropriate dress and behavior are required.

- Be mindful of elders and community members with accessibility needs.

The Arena

- Do not enter the arena once it has been blessed

- Intertribal dances are open to all

- Listen to the MC.

Photography, Video, and Recording

- Do not take photos or videos during prayers, blessings, or certain songs.

- Ask for permission before taking photos or videos

- Do not record drum songs

Come experience an evening filled with Traditional California shake head dancers, local Native vendors, local organizations resource booths, and a gathering that uplifts culture, identity, and community.

If you are a registered vendor or part of a dance group, parking arrangements have already been taken care of, so you do not need to worry about parking fees.

With heavy hearts, we share that Tom Phillips Sr. passed away, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Tom's Go Fund Me will now go toward honoring Tom’s wishes to be brought home to Oklahoma, and to support Wanda with travel and related expenses so she can be with him and family during this time.

Culture Week 2026 is here! 🎉

Join us for a week of community, culture, and celebration at UC Davis from March 30 – April 4. From workshops and wellness events that lead up to Big Time and Powwow!
