Volunteers Needed! Family Science Night
Where: Virginia Run Elementary School Cafeteria (Near Entrance 4)
Date: Tuesday, May 12th
Time: 5:15 – 7:45 p.m.

Join us for an exciting Family Science Night with the Children’s Virginia Run Elementary needs 20 volunteers!

Science Center Lab! Activities are hands-on and designed for students in grades K–6.

We need 20 volunteers to help guide hands-on activities at various tables. No science experience required - just enthusiasm!

*** Must be 16 years or older
Great opportunity for teen volunteer hours

About a week before the event, volunteers will receive an info packet with everything needed to run their assigned activity - including setup instructions (staff will assist with this), how to run the activity, and key points.

Training Tuesday — have you taken the NEW Safeguarding Youth Training yet?

Make sure you've taken it before Sunday, May 31, 2026, as that is when Youth Protection Training EXPIRES!

Youth Protection Training (YPT) has been replaced by the new Safeguarding Youth Training. This training is required for all Scouting America registered volunteers and is a joining requirement.

Heads up for Scouts and families about updates to the Citizenship In Society (CIS) Merit Badge and the Eagle process.

Citizenship In Society (CIS) Merit Badge can no longer be started in the Scoutbook platform.

December 31, 2026 will be the last date that can be entered for CIS completion.

For Star and Life ranks, nothing changes. CIS can still be used as an Eagle Required Merit Badge for Star or Life, or counted as one of the additional merit badges.

For the Eagle Rank, a new version of the Eagle requirements is now available that does not require the CIS Merit Badge.

If a Scout has already earned CIS and wants it counted as an Eagle Required Merit Badge, they can switch to the 2022 version of the Eagle Rank. CIS must already be completed and earned before making the switch. If the Scout is currently on the 2026 version, the only way to switch to the 2022 version is by clicking the requirement note on Requirement #3 in the Eagle Rank section.

A new fillable 2026 Eagle Application will be available soon in the Scoutbook platform.

Public Speaking Merit Badge is an elective merit badge some of our older scouts have been working on for a couple weeks.

It's always fun to watch what they come up with when they are having fun! Using props and hand motions we learned to play soccer, flag football, basketball and riffle shooting (for a high school competition team) As a councilor I always love when they enjoy themselves!
