Hi Aggies! My name is Molly Powers, and I was invited to join the NSLS as a first year at Davis, and I was a little hesitant about the invitation because I had never heard of the NSLS. After doing a little research on the organization, I was so excited that I got invited. For me, as a freshman, I was all about finding new friends and groups to join. But I was having a little bit of a hard time finding a group that really felt like me, finding a group that helped me grow as a student and as a person. And I definitely found that with the NSLS. As you will see, the NSLS community consists of the friendliest, most hard-working, genuine people. The program is designed in a way, even now that it's online, to help students meet other like-minded, intelligent, young leaders. Through the induction process, I met so many wonderful people who helped me learn more about my campus as a new Aggie, and also taught me a lot about my potential as a leader and how to harness it. The NSLS is all about growing together, learning how to communicate with others, appreciating diverse backgrounds and experiences, recognize that there are many different kinds of leaders, which I think is both beautiful and essential for young students. The NSLS is so much bigger than one chapter, one induction certificate, or something to put on your resume. It is about changing the world through our differences and our unique characteristics and experiences. I’m overall so glad I joined the NSLS. I have learned so many valuable skills that I not only use right now in daily life, but that I will also take with me into the professional world for the rest of my life.
