Wildlife Research Team Founded in 1993 by Dr. Tom Kazo and Donna McVicar Kazo. Our mission: environmental education through habitat restoration and conservation.

Twenty-seven years ago, Wildlife Research Team was only a dream of a man named Tom Kazo, confined to a nursing home. Dreams are powerful medicine. With the love of his best friend Donna, he survived that nightmare. In 1993, he bought a hurricane-battered canoe for $20. He named it "Do-er," restored it, painted its hull black, had Donna letter Wildlife Research Team on its sides, and began paddling

every possible watery area in South Florida! Ten years after founding WRT, Dr. Tom was chosen by NOAA as an Environmental Hero of the Year, for his unique vision that healed the hurricane-devastated mangrove habitat of Matheson Hammock/R. Hardy Matheson Preserve. Since his tragic passing in 2006, his widow Donna Kazo has continued on with our mission, leading hundreds of canoe cleanups around South Florida. "As the population of Florida increased, and the beauty of the land became overrun
by houses and strip malls, I began to worry about the rapid disappearance of natural
Florida.

Suddenly, my photographs of the Everglades were becoming history rather
than images of how Florida presently appeared. That knowledge was disturbing
and motivated me to begin my conservation activities.

Saving the Everglades and working with state agencies and national environmental groups became part of my life, and the Everglades became the heart of my photography.

Through my images, I hope people will come to a greater understanding of the
beauty we will lose if the preservation and restoration of our environment are not
at the forefront of our thoughts.
