Our mission is to show the people of Haiti the reality of God's love and care, demonstrating that through Jesus Christ, a future and hope are provided for each and every person. Mission Haiti is a non-profit 501c3 that grew out of the Florida-Georgia District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

This Easter season, our team had the opportunity to serve families in Delmas at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Through a special Easter distribution, we were able to provide food and care to those in need.

Together, we served 40 families at the church and delivered meals to 10 additional families who were unable to attend due to physical disabilities. This distribution combined our March and April efforts into a meaningful Easter blessing for the community.

We are so grateful to share a message from Lophane, who helped lead this effort:

“In Haiti, Easter is a very special time for us. That is one of the reasons I chose to distribute the food on Good Friday so families could have a better Easter. We served 40 families at Good Shepherd and brought food to 10 others who could not come because they are handicapped.

I can tell you it was such a blessing to see how happy these families were to receive the food packages. May God continue to bless all the members of Mission Haiti, especially our donors and sponsors who never stop supporting us. May God bless you.”

We are continually humbled by the joy, faith, and resilience of the Haitian people. Thank you for being a part of this mission!

Easter in Haiti is a season filled with vibrant tradition, deep faith, and joyful celebration. One of the most beloved customs during this time is kite flying—a beautiful expression of creativity, community, and the hope we have in Christ.

Across Haiti, from rural villages to busy areas like Port-au-Prince, families gather during Holy Week to fill the skies with handmade kites. Even in crowded neighborhoods, rooftops become launching places for colorful creations soaring overhead.

For many Haitian children, these kites are not store-bought—they are carefully crafted from whatever materials are available. Using plastic bags, sticks, scraps of paper, and even natural plant sap as glue, they create something remarkable. This reflects the Haitian spirit of “degagé”—making the most of what you have. The result is not only beautiful, but meaningful.

In some communities, Easter weekend also includes kite competitions, where families and neighbors come together to celebrate with prizes for the highest-flying or most creative designs. These gatherings bring joy, laughter, and a sense of unity.

But beyond the color and creativity, kite flying carries a deeper meaning. As kites rise into the sky, many Haitian Christians are reminded of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It becomes a powerful symbol of hope, renewal, and the freedom we have in Him.

Another exciting update is the beginning of a school library project! A generous donor recently provided seed funding to help start a library for the school. We have already purchased several books in French and Haitian Creole to begin building the collection. There are opportunities for others to support this effort by donating funds to purchase additional books or to help cover the cost of shipping them to Haiti, which is currently about $3 per pound.

We hope to share photos of the library soon as the project continues to grow!

In February, our team in Port-au-Prince held a food distribution where 40 families were served. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide food assistance to families during such a difficult time in Haiti. Each distribution is a reminder that even small acts of generosity can bring hope and relief to those facing daily uncertainty.

We are thrilled to share that all funds were raised for the kids’ Christmas party! The celebration included a special worship service focused on the true meaning of Christmas, followed by a festive party for the kids. The children also received a special treat of Kolkiyol, traditional Haitian donuts, that made the day even more memorable.

We were also able to hire a local Haitian baker, supporting small business owners and providing meaningful work within Port-au-Prince. This was an extra blessing woven into the celebration and a beautiful example of community support in action.

Welcoming the New Year with Soup Joumou

The celebration continued into the New Year with Soup Joumou, a traditional Haitian dish symbolizing freedom, hope, and new beginnings. Sharing this meal on New Year’s Day was a powerful reminder of resilience and the promise of what’s ahead.

Have you ever had Soup Joumou?

This Giving Tuesday: Make Christmas More Than Shopping

As the holiday season approaches, it’s easy to get swept up in the rush of buying gifts and checking off lists. But Christmas is about so much more, it’s a celebration of the birth of our Savior! A time to reflect His love through generosity and compassion.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to help us bring that joy to the children of Port-au-Prince. We are raising $500 to provide gifts, food, and meaningful celebration activities for their Christmas party. This even includes hiring a local Haitian baker to prepare kolkiyol, a special holiday treat the kids love!

Let’s make Christmas truly special for the children of Port-au-Prince!

Join in on the fun this Christmas season! We are looking to raise $500 during the months of November and December to cover the cost of gifts, food and celebration activities! This includes hiring a local Haitian Baker in Port au Prince to make Kolkiyol (the Haitian word for doughnut) for the kids' Christmas party!
