The U.S. Department of Agriculture has officially declared 12 Maryland counties as natural disaster areas following the devastating late-April frost, unlocking critical emergency assistance for our affected farmers.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins for approving this vital relief, as well as to our elected officials who stepped up to echo the urgent concerns of our hardworking agricultural community.

🚨 MAJOR WIN FOR MARYLAND FARMERS: The U.S. Department of Agriculture has officially declared 12 Maryland counties as primary natural disaster areas following the devastating late-April freeze.

In the immediate days following the frost, Maryland Farm Bureau went straight to work. In our internal survey, we found that affected farmers experienced an average 67.5% loss in damaged crops. We used this date to petition USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, rallied our state leaders, and took your stories directly to major news outlets to ensure our farming community wasn't ignored.

We are grateful to the USDA and our partners in government for giving our farmers this much needed relief and security for them to keep going. Because of this coordinated push, critical FSA emergency loans are now unlocked to help impacted growers recover, rebuild, and refinance.

A crisis doesn't wait, and neither do we. We can only launch these rapid response campaigns because of the strength of our members. If you want a someone in your corner when the unexpected hits your fields, we need you standing with us. Join us today at marylandfb.org

The Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) is inviting public comments on the proposed modifications to the procedural schedule in the MPRP Case (Case No. 9773). Comments must be returned by Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

It’s important to note that you do not have to have property within the MPRP’s path to submit public comments. We encourage all concerned residents in affected counties to make their voices heard on this topic.

When writing to the PSC, consider asking the Commission to reject the power company's rushed timeline and encourage a fair schedule with robust transparency that protects the rights of local citizens, farmers, and landowners.

Your comments must reference "Case No. 9773" in the subject line. You can submit comments at

Proceedings before the Commission often require input from the community in the form of written public comments or public comment hearings.

Some of Maryland’s specialty crop producers – the folks who grow fresh produce like apples, peaches, and berries — are facing unprecedented losses following a late April frost.

Maryland Farm Bureau Executive Director Parker Welch spoke with WUSA 9 at Butler's Orchard on our request to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a disaster declaration for affected farmers.
