Mesquakie District, Illowa Council We currently serve 675 youth in 28 different units in Clinton and Jackson Counties in IA. Contact District Executive Molly Williams for more information.

The name Mesquakie comes from the more commonly known Sac and Fox Native American tribe that lived in this area from the 1600’s to mid 1800’s. The name Mesquakie stands for "Red Earth People" but were referred to by early French traders as "Renards" or "Foxes" because the French had mistaken the Fox Clan as a representation of the entire Mesquakie Tribe. The Fox name for the Mesquakie people stuck

and they were refered to as Foxes by both English Traders and the United States Government. Our District was once the Mesquakie Area Council #174 from 1937-1959. We continue to carry on this tradition with our brand the Fox Head representing Mesquakie with a Boy Scout fleur-di-lis between its ears to denote our scouting heritage since 1911.

Fantastic day fishing with Cub scouts at the Mesquakie District Fishing Derby! A total of 254 fish were caught! Congratulations to Donald C. for winning the casting contest, Barrett T for catching the most fish (24), Archer C. For catching the smallest fish (1/4 inch), and Logan T for catching the biggest fish (2.26 pounds). Thanks to all our volunteers and donors!

Huge thanks to everyone who purchased popcorn this past fall and donated to first responders/military. We were able to deliver a pickup truck full of popcorn to Clinton Fire Department! We appreciate all they do for our community!
