She spends every day live in front of lights, cameras, and thousands of viewers across the QCA. Yet, Morgan Ottier swore off this kind of Quad Cities Live. After last year's Battle of the Businesses, the KWQC anchor said, "never again,” stage fright is real, and singing publicly terrifies her. But she’s back for round two.
"Here's the thing," Ottier says. "It's for Common Chord. How do you not support an entity like that?"
Music isn't just a hobby for Morgan; it's personal. Her father was a professional musician, a keyboardist and entertainer who passed away when she was two years old. "Being able to sing or perform a little bit feels like bringing that connection to the surface," she explains. "Maybe that's why it feels so personal to me."
On TV every day, Morgan's comfortable talking to a camera. But a stage full of hundreds of faces staring back? That's different. Still, she shows up, nervous, shy, but showing up, because Common Chord's work matters.
"Everyone has a smile on their face. That's reason enough to continue supporting an organization working to do this for young people trying to find their thing."
This is why we play. And this is why The Cultural Trust champions businesses that show up for culture, even when it's scary.
