Christian nationalist blames women for America's issues,

Here we go again, Christian nationalist blames women for America’s issues, questions their right to vote
By Jaymie Vaz,
\
Dale Partridge, an Arizona pastor, recently declared that the majority of women simply aren’t capable of responsible voting. So, he openly called for the repeal of the constitutional amendment that has guaranteed women the right to vote in the United States since 1920.
This clip, which also hit X, shows Partridge asserting that “one of America’s biggest threats is white liberal women,” a belief he says fuels his push to overturn the 19th Amendment. The thing is, according to International Business Times, this is the latest step in a months-long campaign. He has already announced a book, ambitiously titled ’19 Reasons to Repeal the 19th Amendment,’ and stated his goal of seeing women’s suffrage overturned within the next decade.

The 19th Amendment legally guarantees American women the right to vote. It didn’t just appear overnight; it was the result of a long, incredibly difficult struggle that began in the mid-19th century. Many early supporters never even lived to see their victory in 1920.
There is outrage, and then whatever I am feeling at the moment
Between 1878, when the amendment first appeared in Congress, and August 18, 1920, when it was ratified, women organized, petitioned, and picketed. They often faced heckling, jailing, and sometimes even physical abuse for a basic right.
Per The National Archives, things began to change when New York adopted women’s suffrage in 1917, and in 1920, Tennessee provided the crucial three-fourths threshold required under Article V of the Constitution. However, even with ratification, full enfranchisement wasn’t immediate for everyone, as women of color continued to face discriminatory barriers for many decades.

In November 2024, Partridge posted on X that “in a Christian marriage, a wife should vote according to her husband’s direction.” That same month, he also wrote that “nearly every legalized moral atrocity in the last 100 years was made possible by the female vote.”
He frames his argument over the 19th Amendment not as hostility. Instead, he says, “I think we should repeal the 19th Amendment because I love America and American women and want to protect our nation from their suicidal empathy.”
In March, when he announced his book, he stated his goal to build enough public support over “the next 10, 15 years” for “a Supreme Court case repealing the 19th.” Thankfully, Partridge is stupid, and his legal strategy has a pretty fundamental flaw. The 19th Amendment is a part of the United States Constitution, and thus the Supreme Court has no say.

The court’s authority under judicial review extends only to statutory law and executive action, not to provisions of the Constitution itself. Repealing the 19th Amendment would require a proposal passed by two-thirds of both chambers of Congress, followed by ratification by legislatures in three-quarters of all 50 states. That means 38 states would need to approve its removal. Which, at this point, is a political impossibility.
The only constitutional amendment ever repealed in American history was the 18th, which established Prohibition. Even then, it took 14 years and required a special ratifying convention process.

Partridge seemed unaware of this crucial procedural distinction when he said, “If we can repeal Roe v. Wade, then I think we can overturn the 19th Amendment.” As stupid as I think he is, unfortunately, he is simply a part of a broader online movement. The hashtag has been circulating persistently on X, and this argument has spread from anonymous accounts to the stated positions of identifiable figures, including other pastors, podcasters, and far-right commentators.

It’s Cool To Be A Happy Activist

I’m deeply worried about our country, our Constitution, democracy, and the rule of law. The level of anti-feminism is at an all-time high for my lifetime, and that scares the s**t out of me–particularly for those in my daughter’s generation who growing up without prior context. I am an activist and I work for change. I write fiction and essays, occasionally poetry, and I focus on difficult topics.

And I’m happy as hell, personally.

I’m tired of the brooding/unhappy activist/writer archetype. It’s stale. It’s unnecessary. If we’re going to be transgressive against an oppressive culture, let’s also be transgressive against the narrative that those working for change are supposed to be killjoys. After all, that narrative is meant to make people dig their heads in the sand, to the benefit of the dictators and inequalities of the world.

My life is fulfilling; I’m doing work I care about; I believe in the power of social change and that it is something we can effect. I look at horrible things all day long at work, and still maintain this chipper attitude. This goes against the grain.

In a brilliant piece on his Substack, “Make the Refusal to Quit Go Viral,” Scot Nagakawa writes,

“People perform exhaustion in order to belong, and then, inevitably, they begin to feel what they perform.

As we reach the heart of spring, we’re sharing Minnesota legislative session updates, upcoming events, and an exciting development in the campaign for universal school meals in North Dakota!

We are also relieved that Children’s Hospital Minnesota is resuming full spectrum gender-affirming care after a disruptive month-long pause. Children’s decision to pause was a consequence of federal targeting of dedicated health providers. But we want to reiterate: singling out transgender youth and denying them health care isn’t just wrong, it’s illegal in Minnesota. And in North Dakota and Minnesota, we will keep safeguarding and standing up for this critical care.

Register for the People’s Session by April 20!

Ahead of the 2027 Legislative Session, it’s time to build North Dakota policy by the people and for the people. And that’s exactly what we’re coming together to do Saturday, April 25 from 9 AM - 4 PM at the second annual People’s Session in Bismarck.

This free, full-day grassroots gathering will feature:

Breakout groups digging into North Dakotan priorities like economic security, strong schools, personal freedoms, and bodily autonomy.
Workshops focused on skills-development, including sessions on digital advocacy, change through the legal system, ballot initiatives, and advocacy across rural and urban communities.
Community networking and the chance to connect with ongoing action opportunities.
Please also join the ACLU of North Dakota for a pre-People’s Session social on Friday, April 24 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM!

Minnesota Legislative Session Updates
As we pass the halfway point of the Minnesota Legislative session, it’s been a busy couple of weeks. Here are a few things we’ve been keeping our eyes on:

Anti-Trans Lawmakers Hijack House Floor Session Last week, extremist lawmakers took over a house floor session — stealing time that should have been spent on policies that improve Minnesotans’ lives to instead spread dehumanizing rhetoric and disinformation. We thank the legislators who stood up to these attacks, stopped every discriminatory policy proposed, and properly represented Minnesota’s commitment to the rights, safety, and dignity of our trans neighbors.
Moving to Strengthen Minnesota’s Conversion Therapy Ban In the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court decision that weakens states’ ability to fully ban harmful conversion therapy practices, Minnesota is taking steps to strengthen protections for LGBTQ+ youth via two bills — blocking private insurance funding for conversion therapy and facilitating a path for people harmed by conversion therapy to seek damages — that are moving forward in the legislature.
Opportunity to Pass Infertility Treatment Health Care Coverage The Minnesota Building Families Act would ensure that the 1 in 6 Minnesotans who face infertility challenges have proper health insurance coverage. The bill is currently going through relevant legislative committees — and after several years of attempting to pass this common sense legislation, may have the momentum to finally become law.
Take action by getting in touch with your legislators and making sure they hear directly from you: Minnesotans want to see our lawmakers stand up for trans rights, LGBTQ+ youth, and reproductive freedom.

May 1 Day of Action

As Minnesotans continue the daily work of resistance and community care, we’re also gearing up for another collective day of action. On May 1 — International Workers’ Day — join us for a series of actions harnessing our momentum and building power together. Let’s make our voices heard against ICE and the billionaires (badly) running our country and demand safety, dignity, and justice for all our neighbors.

Court Dismisses Lawsuit Attacking Minnesota’s Trans-Inclusive Sports Policies

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the right of transgender youth to play on school sports teams consistent with their gender. This decision affirms that Minnesota can continue to uphold policies that ensure every kid gets the chance to participate alongside their peers. It also deals a blow to an increasingly popular strategy among anti-trans extremists: misrepresenting and weaponizing Title IX to dismantle longstanding civil rights protections — exactly the opposite of Title IX’s actual purpose.

Universal School Meals Are Headed to the North Dakota Ballot

Last week, the Together for School Meals coalition — a statewide, grassroots initiative working to ensure every student in North Dakota has access to one breakfast and one lunch each school day, completely free — turned in 57,229 signatures to the North Dakota Secretary of State. That’s double what was needed to ensure universal school meals are on the 2026 ballot, submitted months before the deadline!

North Dakotans are making their voices heard: every kid deserves equal access to health, wellbeing, and the chance to succeed. Now, it’s time to take that momentum to the 2026 ballot and pass universal school meals.
