When asked why we don't hear about the same types of amazing cases the Greatest Generation of Chiropractors saw, one of BJ's closest faculty and last head of the BJP Chiropractic Research Clinic said, "We don't see the same people as a profession anymore." What did he mean by that?
Simply this...99% of chiropractors fight over the scraps of LBP and headaches. What about the other 1%? Well, we work to educate our communities to the broad application concepts built upon solid philosophic understandings that the Greatest Generation. Sadly, how this is done is not as widely understood.
So many want to see the myriad of complexities of individuals that Clarence Gonstead, Clay Thompson, Lyle Sherman, and so many others from that era so often had seek them out. Here on Facebook we often see questions about odd case presentations left largely unanswered as so few see anything but the usual aches and pains. They talk about THAT, they advertise THAT, and they will see only THAT. Sure an occasional odd case presents itself, but is by far the exception.
Here is THE point. We want to see our profession respond to the overwhelming need in our communities that is beyond the ache and pain class of problems. In every one of our communities are children whose parents are worried that they might not find an answer for their child's continuing loss of health. While we certainly do not make reference to treating conditions, the LOSS OF HEALTH is THE issue that we no longer master as a profession.
If your patients are coming to see you and leaving their spouses and children at home, they have not been educated as well as they can be. Personally, I have been under care for 43 years and have never gone more than two weeks without getting checked for vertebral subluxation. I was taught properly about the VALUE of my Chiropractor early on. In my first five years of care I had referred 34 patients to his office for regular care. This is not common today in many practices. We have made the decision to focus our efforts upon solving THAT problem.
