The Darrington Community Center, our Community’s touchstone is supported though volunteers and donations and is honored to have partnered with the Darrington School District for the past 53 years.
The District is the primary lessee of the facility, and that $36,000 annual rent is what keeps the doors open — it funds nearly 50% of the annual operating budget, with the remaining 50% procured by the Community Center Board through donations. This relationship benefits both parties: by providing the District a remarkable space for graduation, high school athletics, physical education classes, school dances, and assemblies. The Community Center is able to fund its costs of operation, while the District can lease a space at a cost that is at least 50% below the expense that they would incur by owning their own facility. Both the Community Center’s and District’s financial needs are supported in this arrangement.
If the school levy fails, the District may no longer be able to lease the space and its loss would put a number of school activities at risk – not just sports. It would also mean the Community Center would have an extremely difficult time maintaining its operating budget which in turn negatively impacts Community usage.
This isn’t just about classrooms. It’s about preserving a shared space that serves both students and the broader Community. From youth sports to community events, this partnership maximizes resources and keeps our town connected.
Supporting the levy means supporting our schools and protecting a community hub that benefits us all.
