High selling bull and cow from Tuesday.
He’s not nearly the biggest we’ve ever sold, but the highest per lb we have.
The cow pictured weighed 1,860 and brought 1.90lb for a total of $3,534
She was not bred. That’s beef price!
We’ve shared this post to shed light on the fact that not every animal that comes through, brings top money.

For beef bulls and cows to sell like this these, there’s a few factors to take into consideration.

Ideal weight range is 1,400-2,100lb. (Bulls)
Anything over that is getting too big for the plant to handle safely.
Lean muscle. You don’t want them to be gobby fat.
Also, it matters if they’ve drank a 55 gallon drum of water. If they’re full, they can tell.
You may have heard the term gaunt.
This means they are not full on hay, feed, or water and buyers are able to see exactly what their body condition is.
(Notice the “hollow side” on red cow)

A few other things to consider that could play a factor in deductions-
Sickly, smaller framed, too thin, crippled, bad eyes, disposition, and bad feet are all reasons to reflect cheaper prices.

While in this market everything is high, these cattle pictured were top grade, and prices reflected such.
This evening we guess these are hanging someone cooler, coming soon to a store near you.
