Thank you to Jeff Gregory, Executive Director of Mercy Medical Free Clinics, for a very informative Kiwanis program!

Jeff helped us better understand the differences among free and charitable clinics and community health centers—and the important role each plays in providing healthcare for people with low and moderate incomes.

We are especially fortunate to have a Mercy Medical Free Clinic right here in Darlington (open weekdays except Tuesdays). With the support of dedicated volunteers, free and charitable clinics help provide access to medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, and behavioral health services for people who might otherwise go without care.

Another great reminder of the difference people and organizations can make when a community comes together to serve others!

Latricia McElveen, Career coach with SC Works presented a great program on July 2, 2026 about the efforts to build and support the workforce in the P*e Dee. Supporting the unemployed and underemployed as they build skills and matching them with the right employers makes a difference in our community!

Fourth Circuit Solicitor, Mike Burch, shared an update from his office. He inherited several challenges - including a large number of unprosecuted cases, a limited number of staff, and a need for structure in his office. We were excited to hear that the reorganization of resources under his leadership has led to a 36% reduction in cases over 3 years old.

We were excited to hear about the wonderful opportunities for our community through the Darlington Recreation Department from Director Lee Andrews at our January 15th meeting. The beautiful new facilities on Blue Street are a tremendous asset to our citizens and some exciting new events are coming our way there! Other offerings through the department can be found on the city’s recreation page (https://www.cityofdarlington.com/recreation/).

Recreation Department of the City of Darlington has a host of recreation opportunities including gyms, a pool, tennis courts, parks and more!

Today was a jump start on Christmas celebrations. We enjoyed a program featuring Ann Miles and her beautiful arrangements of some of our favorite songs of the season. Diane Sigmon and Kathy Shuler enjoyed harmonizing on a few tunes too. Andy Cohen got us started with the acoustic guitar and John Denver's Christmas for Cowboys. The beautiful decorations already in place at the Darlington Country Club added just the right touch to the day! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
