When I hosted the first retreat in 2022, I thought it would be a one time only event that I curated for myself and to trick the rest of my family into doing therapy. We are now coming up on the 4th retreat and I can’t imagine a year without it moving forward. I’ve met the most amazing people here, made some of my closest friends, and have been lucky enough to find the most incredible providers that have been willing to come back year after year. So, it was finally time to make things a little more official and give this retreat a name and a logo! Moving forward the retreat will now be the Healing Haven Grief Retreat 🤍

Smelly Hannah’s opened up for the third year in a row at the Ramp Festival to raise funds for the retreat. Despite the rain, people still came out to enjoy the ramps and we managed to raise just under $3k. A new activity addition to this year, led by one of my favorite people, ,Kintsugi! This style of pottery may be the most perfect embodiment of all our trauma-shattered lives. Instead of throwing away the broken beloved pottery, we’ll fix it in a way that doesn’t pretend it hasn’t been broken but honors the breaking and more so, the surviving by highlighting those repaired seams with gold lacquer. Now the object is functional once again and dignified, not discarded. It’s stronger and even more valuable because of its reinforced, golden scars. Just like the art of Kintsugi, our grief can be the catalyst for creating something beautifully unique.
