Highlights from Saturday's Harris Neck North American Butterfly Association (NABA) butterfly count. NABA is an organization dedicated to the conservation of wild butterflies and their habitats. Each year NABA butterfly counts are conducted across the United States by citizen scientists just like you! Members of Coastal WildScapes have been participating in these important counts every year and contributing to efforts to protect these vital and beautiful pollinators. The species that the butterflies were nectaring on this year included Ironweed, Tropical Bushmint, Brazilian Vervain, and Redroot.
This was our largest group for the butterfly count that we have ever had! Thank you to everyone that participated this year. If you are interested in learning your coastal butterflies and native plants, come join us next year. All you need is camera or phone, binoculars, and a love of nature.
