The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing each student with a motivating and emotionally and physically safe environment for learning by applying the principles of ABA in their instruction. As educational leaders, classroom teachers are expected to develop and implement the IEP and, as appropriate, supervise 1:1’s instruction and data collection in collaboration with assigned behavior support personnel. The special education teacher creates effective classroom management and organizational skills and strategies, participates and provides professional development to classroom staff and peers, and create a supportive environment that is conducive to effective instruction and learning across content areas by applying the principles of ABA. In addition, the special education teachers must be able to differentiate instruction for a variety of learners, align student curriculum with common core learning standards, develop IEP goals that target student deficits and build upon student strengths, and collaborate effectively with faculty, families, and outside therapists to supports student learning across core content and independent functioning levels.

Summary of Duties

1. Provides direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.

2. Employs special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve skills across developmental domains.

3. Instructs students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques.

4. Participates in the development of IEPs, reviews documentation, and attends all IEP meetings for students on their caseload.

5. Conducts and supervises the development of systematic and descriptive behavioral assessments, including functional analyses, and provides behavior analytic interpretations of the results.

6. Participates in parent and faculty meetings as appropriate.

7. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids at students’ instructional, interest and maturity level of pupils; maintains required inventory records.

8. Assists in ABA and program training of new hires.

9. Participates in curriculum development and mapping to support student growth.

10. Provides coaching, consultation, and professional development training to 1:1 support personnel regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data collection/analysis.

11. Provides feedback regarding the effectiveness of curriculum and student programs and makes recommendations.

12. Participates in faculty committees and administrative meetings when appropriate.

13. Participates in school events and fundraisers.

Qualifications

1. Knowledgeable regarding how to adapt to student materials, the learning environment, and methods to support student learning.

2. Demonstrates effective communication regarding student programming, school and home behavioral supports, and the school’s philosophy.

3. The ability to provide students and families with consultative services outside of the regular school day.

4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

5. Follows policies and procedures; Completes tasks correctly and on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan; Plans for additional resources; Supports organization's goals and values.

6. Displays original thinking and creativity; Meets challenges with resourcefulness; Generates suggestions for improving work; Develops innovative approaches and ideas. 7. Shall be physically, mentally and emotionally able to provide responsible care for all children including children with disabilities.

Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

2. Current Illinois Type 09 or Type 10 Teacher Certification (LBS 1 required).

3. Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with students with autism either within an elementary or high school setting (ages 3-21) across core content areas.

4. Must have a working knowledge of general and special education curriculum, an understanding of the principals of ABA, and be able to align student program goals with the common core standards.

5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Summary of Duties

The Occupational Therapist ("OT") will work with the classroom personnel to develop, monitor, and implement educational and clinical programming related to occupational therapy goals for students with autism and related disabilities. Utilizing a consultative service model, the OT demonstrates and develops activities and instruction to support student goals, works with the students, completes student assessments and reports, observes the classroom staff working with the student(s), monitors and reports on students’ progress, reviews data, models various therapeutic and teaching strategies for staff, provides corrective feedback to staff, and directly works with the student to revise or probe techniques. The OT ensures that students continue to make progress on OT goals and collaborates with the IEP team on the development and monitoring of each child’s IEP. In addition, the OT will consult with teachers, instructors, parents, and outside service therapists as well as provide initial and ongoing training on programming related to occupational therapy for all faculty and staff as necessary.

Fundamental Responsibilities

The OT is expected to engage in active consultation with all classroom staff, parents, and, as needed outside therapists working with students on their caseloads.

Conducts formal and informal observations and skill probes of individual students.

Administration and formal documentation of assessments as needed for treatment programming and IEP development.

Contributes to the development of IEP recommendations for students and document and discuss students’ present levels of performance, goals, and progress reports during IEP meetings.

Participates in SETT meetings, or other meetings, as needed.

Provides initial and ongoing training for all staff in the areas of occupational therapy as assigned by supervisor or as deemed necessary by supervisor.

Consults with teachers, instructors, parents, and outside service therapists as needed regarding student progress and treatment.

Volunteers and assists with school related activities and events.

Qualifications

Ability to effectively implement behavior, crisis, and physical intervention procedures.

Displays the ability to maintenance and order of OT equipment on a regular basis.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Follows policies and procedures; Completes tasks correctly and on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan; Plans for additional resources; Supports organization's goals and values.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree; graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy program, plus the required clinical internship for professional registration.

Satisfactory completion of Certification Examination of National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapists.

Hold an Occupational Therapy License for the State of Illinois.

A combined minimum of 3 years of school-based and clinical experience in areas of Occupational Therapy with individuals with autism across a variety of age ranges and abilities.

Experience administering various formal and informal assessments.
Understanding of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) training is preferred but not required.

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for providing integrated speech/language programming and treatment in the areas of oral motor, speech and articulation, use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), receptive language, expressive language, and pragmatics; Evaluate and develop programming for children with oral motor and swallowing needs; Develop and monitor individualized goals and plans according to treatment plan within a school setting. In addition, this individual will consult with teachers, instructors, parents, and outside service therapists as well as provide initial and ongoing trainings on speech and language programming for all faculty and staff as necessary.

Fundamental Responsibilities

Conducts periodic observations and skill probes of individual students.

Administration and formal documentation of assessment as needed for treatment programming and IEP development.

Develops IEP recommendations for students including, review and documentation of present levels of performance, goals and progress reports for IEPs.

Coordinates and facilitates SETT meetings with the school district and IEP team members.

Develops programs, assess, intervenes, and evaluates progress and outcomes associated with AAC devices and interventions.

Provides initial and ongoing trainings for all staff in the areas of speech and language as assigned by supervisor or as deemed necessary by evaluation of educational instructors’ skill levels.

Consults with teachers, instructors, parents, and outside service therapists as needed regarding student progress and treatment.

Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the principal.

Qualifications

Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Support Personnel endorsement for Speech Language Pathologists (non-teaching; PreK- age 21) or

Speech language pathologists with a license issued by the IDFPR

Displays the ability to effectively implement behavior, crisis, and physical
intervention procedures.

Knowledge of ABA and VB treatment approaches.

Knowledge of a variety of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and communication applications.

Knowledge of literacy intervention for students with moderate to severe disabilities.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Follows policies and procedures; Completes tasks correctly and on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan; Plans for additional resources; Supports organization's goals and values.

Displays original thinking and creativity; Meets challenges with resourcefulness;

Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.

Experience writing and developing IEP goals, short term objectives, and present levels.

Experience across a variety of age ranges and abilities.

Experience administering various formal and informal assessments (e.g., ABLLS-R, VB-MAPP, and CASL).

The Behavior Analyst is primarily responsible for conducting functional behavior assessments and developing behavior plans based on these assessments, and ensures the effective implementation of all treatment and programming for clients on their caseload as described by the fundamental responsibilities as listed below.

Fundamental Responsibilities

Adheres to professional and legal requirements and principles as well as demonstrating sound professional judgment at all times.
Collaborates with family, caregivers, and all service providers as necessary to ensure continuity of care.
Performs direct and indirect assessments to identify the function of the client's behavior.
Develops a behavior support plan based on functions of behavior and treatment methodologies that are evidence based and reflects the most recent research findings.
Attends all relevant meetings for clients, including Behavior Management Committee (BMC), Human Rights Committee (HRC) and staffings and works effectively as part of a clinical team.
Collects data before and during the implementation of the plan so that the plan’s efficacy can be assessed and data based decisions can be made.
Provides direct instruction/ ongoing supervision, training, and support to clients, staff members, and family members during regularly scheduled home and community based visits. This includes visiting each client at least twice a month in all relevant environments.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the implemented behavioral intervention plan and modifies plan as necessary.
Initiates services with new clients, upon receiving information from Director of Clinical Services, in a timely manner.
Manages caseload, prepares and submits all required documentation in a timely manner including conducting functional assessments and updating behavior plans every year, writing six-month reports, and analyzing data monthly.
Generates reports mandated by DHS and ABA of Illinois in a timely manner.
Supervises Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and graduate students if assigned to relevant cases.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Possession of a minimum a master's degree that was conferred in behavior analysis or other natural science, education, human services, or a field related to behavior analysis.
