🦌 Caught on camera! Three fawns and their mom cooling off in the water on a hot summer day. 💦

Thanks to our summer intern Frank for installing the trail cam and capturing this sweet moment. Listen closely! Deer may seem quiet, but one of these little fawns is bleating.

🌿 Have you seen me? My name is Mile-a-minute. And I live up to it. 😳

🚨 An important invasive plant alert: Mile-a-minute vine has been found in Darien. This fast-growing vine can grow up to 6 inches a day, quickly smothering native plants and shrubs, and can climb trees.

🔎 Know how to spot me: Look for a triangular bright green leaf, tiny prickly barbs on the underside, and a distinctive circular “collar” around the stem at the branches.

🫐 If you find me, act quickly! Pull the vines before the blue berries appear, when birds and small mammals can spread the seeds. Put pulled vines in a trash bag or let them dry completely on a hard surface. Do not compost or take them to the town transfer station.

Think you've spotted Mile-a-minute? Report it to the Connecticut Invasive Plant Working Group so it can be tracked and managed.

🥖🧈 It Takes a Community 💚

Celebrate the Land is more than a beautiful evening at Waterbury Field. It’s a celebration of conservation, community, and the people and partnerships that make our work possible. 🌳

From local businesses like and generous sponsors, including this year’s Visionaries, .r.bank and , to the talented merchants like who help bring the evening to life, each plays an important role in making Celebrate the Land possible. 🙏

Our community of supporters is at the heart of our success. Every ticket purchased, sponsorship made, and gift to the Land Trust helps us protect and care for Darien’s open spaces.🌿

Come celebrate with us on September 12! 🍷 🍽

🌿 Stewardship in Action! ⛏

It may be quiet in town, but there’s always something happening on the Land Trust’s preserves. 🌳 We recently mowed mugwort at Piacentini Preserve before it could produce seed, helping slow the spread of this invasive plant and giving native species room to thrive.

Speaking of natives, many thanks to for their generous donation! 👏 Our interns, along with our Stewardship Advisor, Juliet Cain, are planting these gorgeous natives at Brendan’s Meadow and Mandel Preserve, adding habitat and food for birds, bees, butterflies and other wildlife. 🐝🦋

From managing invasives to adding native plants, it takes ongoing care and a wonderful community of dedicated partners and volunteers to keep our preserves healthy and thriving. Thank you! 💚

🌿 A big thank you to our summer interns, Frank and Emma! 🙌

From the office to the preserves, Emma and Frank have jumped into every opportunity to help care for Darien's open spaces. 🌳

Frank has been busy installing a trail camera to help us discover who's roaming our preserves 🦌, pitching in on stewardship projects, and along with Emma, getting up at the crack of dawn to monitor water quality. 🌊 Together, they've also tackled the important behind-the-scenes work of digitizing our land records.

Emma has supported our neighbor outreach and has brought her creativity to social media and Celebrate the Land, helping make this year's event even more special. 👩‍🎨

Thank you Emma and Frank, for your hard work and willingness to jump in wherever needed. We are so grateful! 💚

🚨 One More Day. Keep Talking. 🗣

This spring, we heard what matters most to Darien residents: preserving open space, caring for our trees, and stewarding the places that make our town so beautiful. 🌅

We heard you. And because of your support, we turn those priorities into action every day. 🌳

Tomorrow is the final day of our Spring Appeal, and we're just over $8,000 away from reaching our goal.

Every gift helps turn your priorities into action, from restoring habitats and maintaining trails to ensuring Darien's natural spaces remain healthy, resilient, and full of opportunities to explore.🚶🏻‍♂️

Keep talking. We'll keep listening. And together, we'll keep making a difference. 💚

Please donate by June 30.

Protect the Darien We Love 💚

Through the survey, residents made one thing clear: Darien's natural beauty matters. 🌅 Our tree-lined streets, open meadows, quiet woodlands and coastal views, make Darien feel like home. 🏠

As development continues, the Land Trust is committed to preserving open space, not only for the landscapes we love, but for the clean water, wildlife habitat, flood protection, and quality of life that natural land provides.🌳🦆🌧

If you haven't yet made a gift to our Spring Appeal, there's still time. Help us protect the places that make Darien, Darien. 💚
