In partnership with the Darien Library, Darien’s elementary school PTOs are pleased to provide this opportunity to parents / caregivers of pre-K to 5th graders in our community in advance of Pride month. A community educator with the Triangle Community Center will talk through terminology, historical assumptions about gender and sexuality, and the importance of allyship in real life situations. The target audience is parents / caregivers of pre-K to 5th grades, but it is open to all adults. The session will take place May 19th from 12-1:30pm at the Darien Library. On February 14th at 7.30pm the Board of Education (BOE) will hold a Regular Meeting; the agenda includes further discussion regarding the Superintendent’s proposed 2023-2024 DPS budget. During the meeting, the BOE will vote line-by-line on proposed modifications. At the conclusion of the vote, the BOE will adopt the proposed budget and it will go to the Darien Board of Finance for review. Parents / guardians are encouraged to share opinions with building-specific PTOs / Principals, during the Public Comment portion of the meeting tomorrow, or by emailing BOE members directly prior to the vote. Discussions regarding the Superintendent’s Proposed 2023-2024 Budget continue in the Board of Education Meeting Room (35 Leroy) on January 31st at 7pm. On January 30th, details regarding a proposed $1.2m reduction to the original proposed budget of $116m were made available to the public. Tonight’s meeting will be a Public Hearing, which means that parents / guardians and members of the public will be encouraged to share their views on the proposed budget, proposed additions and proposed cuts. Individuals can do this via PTO Chairs / Building Principals, by contacting the Board of Education directly or by speaking at the meeting in person or via Zoom. Comments may last up to 3 minutes. The meeting agenda, including virtual participation links, and materials summarizing the proposed $1.2m budget reduction can all be accessed here: https://www.darienps.org/board-of-education/agendas-minutes-and-materials.

On January 24th at 7:30pm the Board of Education (BoE) will hold a Regular Meeting to discuss a variety of topics (DHS Mental Health / Wellness, Fitch Academy, School Security and more). Conversation regarding the Superintendent’s Proposed 2023-2024 DPS Budget will also continue, and BoE members will have an opportunity to propose adds or cuts to specific line items. Parents / guardians are encouraged to participate, either by sharing views with building PTOs / Principals OR by speaking directly during the Public Comment portion of BoE meetings. The Board of Education will continue discussions regarding the Superintendent’s Proposed 2023-2024 Darien Public School District Budget on January 17th at 7pm. The Darien Public School District Budget Process for 2023-2024 has begun! During a brief Special Meeting on Thursday 1/5, Dr. Addley presented his proposed 2023-2024 budget to the Board of Education (BOE) and the community. During an all-day meeting on Saturday 1/7, the BOE will discuss the proposed budget line-by-line. On Tuesday, 1/10, the BOE will hold a regular meeting which will serve as an opportunity for further discussion. All parents / guardians with students in DPS are encouraged to get involved, and all meetings are open to the public! Share your views with your school PTO Chairs / Building Principals, or, speak directly during public comment at Board of Education meetings to make your voice heard! The Council of Darien School Parents (CDSP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which is the umbrella organization for all Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) for Darien Public Schools. The best way to get involved is to volunteer through your school’s PTO! Voting members of CDSP (including PTO Chairs and CDSP Reps) are slated through each school’s annual nominating process which typically takes place in late winter / early spring. Tonight's the night! Dr. Marc Brackett's parent workshop takes place at 7:00pm at the DHS auditorium. Dr. Brackett's interactive discussion with parents will focus on wellness, mental health and social-emotional learning. It is recommended that you attend in person, however if you can't make it out tonight, you can stream it live:

Dr. Brackett is the founder and director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and co-creator of RULER, an evidence-based approach to social-emotional learning. Info series post #4! The Council of Darien School Parents (CDSP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which is the umbrella organization for all Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) for Darien Public Schools. CDSP meetings offer a forum for discussing best practices, exchanging and sharing ideas and identifying synergies for PTO-sponsored events, etc. A recent example is coordination of all PTOs to fund a parent workshop with Dr. Marc Brackett, the developer of RULER, in Darien on December 6th (7pm at the DHS Auditorium). The 2023-2024 budget process for Darien Public Schools will commence tomorrow! On 11/22/22 Dr. Addley will introduce his high-level budget priorities to the Board of Education (BOE). On 1/5/23 Dr. Addley will present his proposed budget for 2023-2024 in more detail. “Super Saturday”, an all-day session in which the BOE begins discussion on the proposed budget at a granular level, will be held on 1/7/23.
