Learn more about us via this short documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54KNnCWHm7A Identifying ourselves as by who we are is limiting and we will never be able to tell you the truth of our present form, because we are the collective force of individual knowledge and experiences. We want to offer our communities a means of empowerment through living room conversations, skill shares, provid

ing resources, and significant relationships that will make a difference in the community with the difference we make being defined by the community. We provide a roof where we can reach across the divides of racial, economic, religious, and various boundaries within the community and stand in solidarity with other peoples through the interrelatedness of our lived experience. We strive to provide an organization strives to promote human and ecological equality in rural and small towns where these conversations and solutions are not often found. Located in Dardanelle and serving Pope and Yell Counties, the McElroy House is a grassroots community-based organization working to find local solutions to local problems. Valuing our landscape and our cultural resources, we explore how the past informs the present, and how, by building bridges across generations and cultures, we can work toward a stronger and more inclusive future for Pope and Yell Counties. Our core goal is to work to bring people, and ideas, together across divides. We host skill shares, workshops, operate a diaper cloth diaper bank, and are starting gardens on site. Our building---a simple 1940s house--- is an ongoing experiment in affordable retrofitting. We strive to do our part in building collective liberation, working across race and class as well as building connections and commonalities between communities in rural and urban areas. Though we are not specifically an organization for low income residents, we believe that everything we do should be accessible to low income residents, especially caregivers. Members of the McElroy House work to initiate their own projects and we seek to serve as an idea hub for community work. We are closely linked with the Boiled Down Juice publication (www.boileddownjuice.com), “a gathering space for conversations at the intersection of community-based traditions and holistic, democratic, place-based community action.” The Boiled Down Juice is a resource site; the McElroy House an action-oriented organization.

Join us Thursday for our second Seasonal Pulse Workday at the McElroy House gardens!

Last week we finished the nearly yearlong conversion of the front garden to a full and active pollinator garden. This week we will be focusing on the food production area I the back. Amending soil, watering, and weeding. Plus we’ll be charting out what food we’ll be growing in the late summer and fall!

¡información en español muy pronto!

You may have heard that we recently were awarded a gift from the Arkansas Community Foundation to support our efforts to contribute to local food security. That means helping people gain skills and resources! These weekly workshops are a place to grow and learn. We are a small group so please be patient with us and come pitch in!

We have one of the biggest elderberry bushes in Dardanelle now! Last year it got hit down the middle by lightning and we thought it wouldn’t survive. Now it’s so huge it’s trying to engulf the food pantry! Did you know that you can come garden with us? Come and join us in the garden!!

Dear friends, family, and community,

We are the Lara Perez Family.
We are reaching out with a heavy heart, she recently got diagnosed with Stage 4 Stomach Cancer which has spread beyond the stomach to other parts of the body. This unexpected diagnosis has completely turned our world upside down and we are doing our best to stay strong for our mom during this difficult time. This journey is filled with uncertainty, pain, and moments of despair. But there is one thing we know for sure —our mom is a fighter.
She’s the kind of person who finds a way to smile even on the toughest days, who fights with every ounce of her being, and who reminds us each day what true resilience looks like. Her fight is not just for herself, but for her family, for the moments she still wants to experience, and for the love she so freely gives to others.
Faith has always been at the center of her life. Our mom is a devoted leader and member of a congregation in our area as well. Just as she has given her heart to her family, she has given it to her church community as well.

However, the reality is that the cost of her treatment is overwhelming. She’s currently undergoing ongoing chemotherapy and treatments that are vital to her fight. On top of her many hospital visits and medications it’s becoming more than we can handle on our own. If you’ve ever met our mom, you’d know how much she deserves this fight. Every donation whether it be big or small, your kind words, or a simple share of her story—means everything to us. It’s a reminder that she’s not alone in this fight.
All donations will go directly towards her medical expenses and help us provide her with the best possible care. We are deeply grateful for your love, prayers, and support during this time. Thank you for standing with us, for believing in her, and for helping us give her the strength to keep fighting.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, prayers, and compassion. Every donation brings us closer to giving her the strength she needs to keep fighting and to hold on to hope.

The McElroy House has generously created a challenge for our community to match up to $1,000 in donations, so your donations will be worth double the amount! A big thank you to them and you for helping us during this time.

With love,
The Lara Perez Family

Queridos amigos, familiares y comunidad:
