Join us every Tuesday at 6pm for Training!

Belforest is an unincorporated community in Baldwin County, Alabama, located just east of Daphne. Our jurisdiction extends from Pollard Rd, off County Rd. 64 to River Rd, off County Rd. 54. This community has seen tremendous growth over the past 5-10 years and continues to grow! Belforest currently is home to just over 18,000 residents and is proudly served by an all volunteer fire department. We

work closely with our neighboring, mutual fire departments, Daphne Fire Department, Silverhill Volunteer Fire Department and Loxley Volunteer Fire Department. It is our honor to proudly serve our community and we are always looking for new members, who want to serve, as well! We send all of our firefighters to Certified Volunteer Firefighter training, as well as a multitude of continuing training. We meet weekly to keep our skills sharp and come together often, as a family to fellowship. Congratulations!

Please join us in congratulating Chris Peacock, Chris Bishop, and Ethan Bertagnolli on successfully completing and passing Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS)!

ABLS is a course developed by the American Burn Association and was taught and hosted by The University of South Alabama University of South Alabama.

Congratulations to all three on this accomplishment and for continuing to expand their knowledge and skills to better serve our community!

Get to Know Your Belforest Volunteer Firefighters

Meet Firefighter Robert Jenkins!

Robert joined the Belforest Volunteer Fire Department in January 2026 and brings 22 years of fire service experience from Baldwin County and Escambia County, Florida.

He holds numerous fire service certifications, recently completed his EMT, and serves as our Quality Assurance Analyst, ensuring incident reports are accurate before submission to the national reporting database.

Outside of Belforest, Robert is a Planning Specialist with FEMA and holds an Advanced Level Emergency Manager designation. He has an Associate's Degree in Fire Science, a Bachelor's in Fire and Emergency Management, and a Master's in Emergency Services Management. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Emergency Management.

When he's not working or studying, Robert enjoys the beach, cruises, mountain biking, obstacle races, and spending time with his wife and kids. He's also a certified venomous snake handler!

We're proud to have Robert as part of the Belforest family!

This Weeks Belforest Member Spotlight:

Ethan Bertagnolli

Ethan joined the Belforest Volunteer Fire Department in 2023 and currently serves as the Battalion Chief of Medical Operations.

Outside of the fire department, Ethan works as a Registered Nurse at a Level I Trauma Center and has worked in emergency medicine for nearly seven years. He holds multiple healthcare/emergency certifications and is board certified by the BCEN. Ethan has also completed all of his fire certifications and is currently continuing his education by working toward his Critical Care and Flight Nurse certifications.

As Battalion Chief of Medical Operations, Ethan is focused on strengthening the department's medical operations, educating our members, and expanding community outreach.

When he's not at work or the fire station, you can usually find Ethan playing drums, hanging out with friends, playing video games at the department, or his favorite, traveling. It has become a running joke around the station that someone is always asking when and where Ethan is headed on his next vacation.

Member Spotlight This week: Matthew McKinney

Matthew joined Belforest Volunteer Fire Department in 2025 after pursuing a longtime goal of becoming a firefighter. A U.S. Army veteran and cancer survivor, he values opportunities to serve others and is proud to continue that tradition with the Belforest Volunteer Fire Department.

Whether it’s attending drills, responding to calls, or training to become a better firefighter, Matthew appreciates the camaraderie of the department, the opportunity to be part of something bigger than himself, and the sense of purpose that comes with serving the Belforest community. In addition to responding to calls, he also serves as the department’s Morale Officer, helping foster fellowship and support among the members.

When he’s not at the station or answering calls, you’ll usually find Matthew spending time with his wife and two children, fishing whenever he gets the chance, or enjoying the outdoors with his family.

This morning, Belforest Volunteer Fire Department responded alongside Daphne Fire Department, Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department, & Loxley Volunteer Fire Department to a commercial structure fire. Thanks to the quick actions and coordinated efforts of all crews on scene, the fire was brought under control quickly.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the men and women of each department for their professionalism, teamwork, and unwavering dedication to serving their communities. It is an honor to work alongside such outstanding firefighters.

Member Spotlight: Engineer Tommy Bertagnolli

Tommy is the brother of former Belforest Fire Chief Nick Bertagnolli, the son of the late Chief Tommy Bertagnolli Sr. of Daphne Fire, the cousin of our own Belforest Fire member Ethan Bertagnolli... and, as far as we can tell, probably related to just about everyone else with the last name Bertagnolli!

Tommy has proudly served in the fire service since 1987, protecting multiple communities before eventually calling Belforest Volunteer Fire Department home. Along with responding to emergency calls, Tommy also serves as our unofficial groundskeeper because, let's face it, he's just really good at it.

When he's not at the station or answering calls, you'll usually find Tommy hog hunting, fishing from his boat in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, or enjoying the outdoors.

Thank you, Tommy, for nearly four decades of dedication, hard work, and service to the fire service and the Belforest community. We're proud to have you on our team!

This past Tuesday, our members participated in a live burn training led by Battalion Chief Michael Aaron. The evening focused on smoke identification, understanding the thermal layer, and effective hose advancement. These are critical skills that help keep both firefighters and our community safe.

It was also a great opportunity to put our new engine through its paces during training. We can't wait to officially reveal it soon, so stay tuned!

We were also excited to welcome several new volunteers to the department. It's always great to see new faces stepping up to serve our community.

Belforest Fire Department member spotlight this week is:

Deputy Chief Brady McSherry

Deputy Chief Brady McSherry was born and raised in Belleville, Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 2007–2013 as a SATCOM Technician, earning the rank of Sergeant.

Brady began his EMS career in 2008 with Belleville EMS before joining the Belleville Fire Department in 2011. Prior to moving to Alabama in 2024, he served as a Captain overseeing training and fire inspections. He joined the Belforest Volunteer Fire Department in June 2024 and now serves as our Deputy Chief.

His certifications include Firefighter I & II, Pump Operator, Fire Instructor I, and Fire Inspector I. Outside of the fire service, Brady spent much of his career in construction and now works as a Data Product Manager for Cotality, supporting their Residential Valuation platform.

When he's off duty, you'll likely find him hunting, fishing, or learning about foraging for mushrooms and other wild edibles. And if you ask him about football, there's only one answer: Go Pack Go!

We're grateful to have Deputy Chief McSherry's leadership, experience, and dedication serving the Belforest community.
