Danville Little House

Danville Little House For 75 years, Danville’s Little House has welcomed generations of Girl Scouts—a place where young women learned leadership, friendship, and service.

Now, the Danville Little House needs major renovations to preserve the building for future generations.

Throwback Thursday – When the Floor Gave Out

Back in 2020, we discovered what “going through the floor” really meant. 😳 Parts of the Little House had to be completely rebuilt—floor, joists, and even some foundation blocks. Thanks to dedicated volunteers, we got it patched up enough to keep the doors open.

But the rest of the flooring in the Little House remains one of our most critical repair needs today. 💚

Our recent fundraiser got us a little closer, but we are still far from our overall goal. We continue to seek donations so we can finish these urgent repairs and ensure the Little House stands strong for the next 75 years of Girl Scouts.

👉 Every gift, big or small, makes a difference.

THROWBACK THURSDAY – Volunteers Make It Happen!

Girl Scouts couldn’t happen without volunteers—and that’s been true for generations. 💚

These snapshots, from the 1970s to a volunteer appreciation event in 2019, all took place inside the Little House. From planning and paperwork to crafts and celebrations, volunteers have always been the heart of this space.

As we work to renovate and preserve the Little House for the next 75 years, we honor those who gave their time and talents in the past—and invite you to join us in supporting its future.

THROWBACK THURSDAY - Covid Didn't Stop Us
Even during Covid, Girl Scouting at the Little House continued—just with a creative twist! 🎃✨

This Tent n Treat event was held mostly outside, with tents decorated by older Girl Scouts for trick-or-treating and songs around the fire. Inside, crafts were made safely with tables wiped down after each small group.

The Little House has always been a place where Girl Scouts can adapt, gather, and make memories—no matter the circumstances. 💚

Help us keep it going for the next generation!

THROWBACK THURSDAY - Community Service

Donations for the Salvation Army almost filled our Little House in March of 1976. Danwood Girl Scouts, including these Brownies in troop 630, distributed 2,500 bags throughout Hendricks county to collect donations. Community service projects continue to be a big part of Girl Scouts.

If you were a member of troop 630, please share your memories in the comments below.

Have you marked your calendar for the Facelift Fundraiser on August 24th?

While we look ahead to the next chapter for the Danville Little House, we're also looking back—with love—at the moments that brought us here 💚

These photos are from the 40th Anniversary Celebration in 1990—a time when leaders, families, and Scouts came together to honor the past and strengthen the future of this special place. The smiles, the songs, the badges, the memories—they’re why we’re doing this.

Help us get the Little House ready for another 40 years!

This week's Throwback Thursday comes from Nancy Wills who shared this picture of her Girl Scout troop in 1968 along with the following memories:

"Our Girl Scout Troop began at an early age with various girls from the 1960’s involved. Our earlier leaders were Betty Headrick and Lorena Rutledge. We met at the Girl Scout Little House, sold cookies, earned badges just as they do today. We went to Delwood Sherwood Forest Camp and to Camp Gallahue in Brown County, usually staying at the USS Ardath. The troop continued throughout our high school years, ending in a trip in June 1968 to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and walking part of the Appalachian Trial, spending one night on the trail. Each camping experience was an adventure. We hope future Girl Scouts will continue to enjoy all the experiences gained by being a part of Girl Scouts."

Pictured with maiden and married names if known:
FRONT ROW: Nancy Rutledge Wills, Mary Griffin Thomas, Lucia Granath O'Brien, Pat Cox, Nancy Wills Martin
BACK ROW: Ann Guthrie Tussey, Karen Gossett, Rosalyn Terrill Ladd, Miriam Orelup Geib, Lorena Rutledge, Jean Anne Funk, Alice Cox and in the center, Anne Roulet.
Not pictured, but part of the troop, Sharon Robinson Cramer.

Were you also in this troop? We’d love to hear your story!
