Stars Stripes County Fair Nights - Celebrating 250 Years of America!

Local friends, the Hendricks County Fair is just around the corner. There are a lot of opportunities to volunteer. One area is through us, the Hendricks County Extension Homemakers. The "Family Home & Arts Open Class" needs 'watchers'. A 'watcher' simply monitors the open class area to make sure the projects remain and are not damaged in any way. The shifts are only 2-3 hours in length beginning at 12 noon each day: Sunday, July 19, through Saturday, July 25.

When you sign-up to volunteer, you will receive a ticket so you can enter the fair. Then, you volunteer for your shift. Afterwards or beforehand, you can enjoy the fair the rest of the time. If you'd like to help, simply go to the following link to sign-up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0449AEAB29A3FEC07-62354021-hceh #/ . You do NOT need to be an Extension Homemaker to volunteer to be a 'watcher'. Thank you for your consideration!!!!

The Hendricks County Homemakers will be BUSY at the Hendricks County 4-H Fair and we will need LOTS of help! You can even ask a friend or family member to help you. Volunteers do not need to be an Extension Homemaker. Those that sign-up by June 26, will receive a fair ticket for the day you volunteer.

There are three main areas where we need help:
1. First, we need people to check-in exhibits for Open Class (Sat., 7/18) as well as people to help check-out the exhibits (Sat, 7/25).
2. Second, we need "Watchers" for the Open Class Exhibit: If you sign-up for this area, you will be watching the exhibits. You'll need to walk around to make sure that the exhibits are safe.
3. Lastly, Extension Homemakers, we need help at the HCEH Booth: We need people to sit and watch over the Extension Homemaker's booth. You can sit throughout your shift; but you will get the opportunity to talk to people that stop by and share your experiences with the Homemakers.

If you can help, go to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0449AEAB29A3FEC07-62354021-hceh #/ to sign-up. If you have questions or have trouble signing up, please contact us at [email protected].

Hello from Young Moderns! Janell, the club president, would like to introduce you to the ladies in our club and what we do for fun. Our club meets once a month – typically in the evening on the first Thursday of each month. We rotate and meet in the home of one of the members. Our club may be small in numbers but we are BIG on fun! We discuss business and any upcoming events and what needs to be done. In June we usually have a special Salad Supper where we all bring in a salad or other items for a pitch-in and do our changing of the Club President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Other months we do lessons and discuss business, or just discuss how everyone is doing. At Christmas time we usually get together and go out with our spouses and enjoy an evening meal. Our members are from the Danville, Avon and North Salem areas. We are always looking for new members so please reach out to any of us to look at attending a meeting to learn more about us.

To join Chat 'n Do or any of our other clubs, please contact us at [email protected] or call the Extension Office at 317-745-9260. Our website is https://extension.purdue.edu/.../hhs/ehmhendrickscounty.html

Why join the Hendricks County Extension Homemakers? So glad you asked!!!! There are lots of reasons, but I'll give you a story instead. Actually, it's my story. :)

I homeschooled all three of my children from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. My last one finally finished her high school education and was headed off to college. With all three out of the house, I decided that I wanted to get involved in the community. I needed somewhere that I could meet other ladies and continue to use my skills and/or talents. So! At the fair, I talked with a lady at the table in the Open Class room, and decided to join. That way 7 years ago! WOW!

I am SO, SO glad that I did. The friends that I made through the Homemakers are priceless. I don't think I would have met these ladies otherwise. I've met ladies of all ages, different backgrounds, different nationalities, etc.

I've heard from a number of other ladies that one of the things they treasure most about their time with Homemakers is the friendships that they make.

Of course, it's up to you on how involved you become. But the more you do, the more people you will meet, the more fulfilling it becomes, the more joy and satisfaction you have, the more the community benefits....all because you took that first step.

Join us today. You can download the brochure/application at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TeNo-8cbiRaavMFYcLSLeCNsIC8MjbCK/view?usp=drive_link

If you would like to talk with someone first, email us your contact information to [email protected]; and one of our lovely ladies will contact you.
