Last chance to sign-up for the "Mediterranean Eating for Heart Health" class tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 13) from 5-7pm at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Hendricks County 4-H Fair & Conference Complex. It's going to be a wonderful evening FULL of information and food. :)

There is a cost to help cover the material. It is just $5, and you could win a jar of olive oil! :) If you are a current Extension Homemaker, the cost for the evening is only $2.

What are the Extension Homemakers all about? We can sum it up in three words: Connect, Grow & Strengthen. Let’s look at the third word: STRENGTHEN!

STRENGTHEN means to make something or to become stronger, more effective, more powerful, or more resistant. The Extension Homemakers are here to support our members, our families, and even our communities. We hope that as you CONNECT with other Extension Homemakers and as you GROW, you will begin to feel stronger. Extension Homemakers provides the support needed for you to become stronger. This can be through as you GROW and learn new skills. It could be through a sense of CONNECTion with a group that supports and encourages YOU. As you are STRENGTHEN, this gives way to cultivating your own resources so you are better equipped to STRENGTHEN others whether that is in your own family, your club, or your community.

What are the Extension Homemakers all about? We can sum it up in three words: Connect, Grow & Strengthen. Let’s look at the second word: GROW!

The Extension Homemakers help you GROW in many areas. You can grow in knowledge, in skills, in leadership, and in confidence, just to name a few. The Extension Homemakers offers classes to help GROW in knowledge, such as our upcoming class on various Olive Oils on October 13. This coming year, the Extension Homemakers are trying to offer various classes such as “How to Crochet” or other various crafts thus allowing you to GROW in your skills. Extension Homemakers also has opportunities for you to GROW in leadership skills in your local club, county-wide or even with the State. Lastly, as you GROW in your knowledge, skills, and in leadership, the confidence that you have in yourself will GROW especially with the support of the other Extension Homemakers in your club and county.

What are the Extension Homemakers all about? We can sum it up in three words: Connect, Grow & Strengthen. Let’s look at the first word: CONNECT!

The Extension Homemakers CONNECT you with others in your neighborhood, your town/city, your state, and possibly even your country. However, it all starts LOCALLY! The Extension Homemakers have eight clubs within Hendricks County that offers local connections: meet people, make friends, and build community.

Each group is unique and offers opportunities to get to know other people. Each month, the activities a club has varies from club to club. It could involve a club meeting, a lesson, a luncheon, a social activity, an outing, a service project, a game or even a craft. Each club is also involved in a variety of county-wide community-service projects such as our Helping Hands Day, our county-wide fundraising projects such as Holiday Fest, or our sponsored activities such as “Open Class” at the Hendricks County 4-H Fair. As with any organization, you get out of it what you put in it! However, Extension Homemakers offer you that platform to CONNECT with others that want to CONNECT with you while serving the community.

Another fun event to consider attending! Thursday, November 12, at 6 pm: It's our "International Program" starring the country of Japan! It's going to be a fun full night! You don't want to miss it.

Next Thursday, October 8, is our "Make A Difference Day" at Bartlett Chapel from 10am to 2pm. This is one of two BIG days! We will turn blankets for Riley's as well as make a craft to share with Cypress Manor.

Also, bring a dish to share and we will have time to eat and talk!! Not that we don’t talk every time we meet, but this time we can really take time to talk between mouthfuls!! Lol

If you have not joined us before, feel free to come and lend a hand, even if you are NOT a member!!! It would be a great opportunity to get to know us a little better while helping out. Besides, the more the merrier. Looking forward to our time together!!

For fifteen years, the Hendricks County Extension Homemakers have been offering monthly teacher grants to teachers in our communities. These grants are offered to help cover some of the expenses that teachers in Hendricks County have been covering with their own funds. This year is no exception: Teacher Grants are available to qualified teachers in Hendricks County schools.

The first winner for the 2026-2027 school year is Hannah Brame. Mrs. Brame is a fourth-grade teacher at Mill Creek East Elementary. Mrs. Brame is a Purdue graduate who has taught at MCE Elementary for 15 years. Mrs. Brame shared that she loves teaching fourth-grade because by the time they reach 4th grade the students have learned the basics and she gets to teach them how to use those basics and apply them. She will be using the funds to start a hydroponic gardening project in the classroom. The students will learn about different food sources and experience eating different types of food that they have helped grow. This project will also help Mrs. Brame to teach and connect everyday life with math and science for the students.
