📚✨ A Step Back in Time with Leonard Lackey! ✨📚

Today at The Rotary Club of Danville, we were treated to a fascinating journey back to the year 1923 presented by our very own member, Leonard Lackey.

Leonard shared highlights of important events that shaped the world in 1923, giving us a glimpse into a time that looked very different from today. He also brought history to life by talking about the prices of everyday items during that era — and let’s just say, we all wished we could fill up our gas tanks and grocery carts at 1923 prices!

To make the program even more special, Leonard shared a heartfelt story from his early childhood, including memories of growing up next door to a professional Major League Baseball player. Hearing about those personal connections to history made the past feel even closer to home. ⚾

Thank you, Leonard, for an engaging, educational, and nostalgic presentation. Programs like these remind us how important it is to preserve and share our stories.

📚✨ The Rotary Dictionary Project Continues! ✨📚
One of our community’s most cherished traditions is back! The Rotary Club of Danville, together with our fellow Rotary clubs across the city, is proud to continue the long-standing Dictionary Project for all 3rd graders in Danville City Schools.

Each year, every 3rd-grade student and their teacher receives their very own dictionary — a gift that supports literacy, learning, and curiosity both in and out of the classroom. 📖💙

This project has been a meaningful part of our community for many years, and we’re honored to play a role in helping young learners build strong foundations for the future.

Thank you to all our Rotary partners and volunteers who make this possible!

We recently had the honor of hearing from Danville Police Chief Wiles. He shared valuable insight into crime rates in our city over the past five years and highlighted the many updates in city policing and technology that are being used to keep our community safe.

Chief Wiles also discussed improvements in officer equipment, including weapon-mounted lights and red dot sights, which allow officers to qualify faster, score higher, and build confidence if they are ever called to use their firearm. He also explained the department’s use of “less-lethal force” options such as updated Tasers and bean bag rounds in shotguns, which provide additional ways to protect the public while minimizing harm.

We are grateful to Chief Wiles for his time and dedication to keeping Danville safe. Thank you for joining us and sharing these important updates with our club!
